OAKLAND, Calif. -- Authorities say a so-called "iron-river" of firearms is flowing from Nevada and California to Mexico, a lucrative side-business for Mexico's powerful and violent drug cartels.
Gabriella Zaco with the U.S Drug Enforcement Agency says the cartels always buy their weapons with cash from drug sales. Zaco showed KTVU showed us some weapons. Zaco says a Narenko AK-47 could be bought for $350-400 here and resold in Mexico for well over a thousand dollars.

Michael Gleysteen works for the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms division in Reno, Nevada where gun laws are more lenient than in California.
He says seven of these high powered 50 caliber rifles are sold every month in Reno.
"This is truly the perfect storm. you have drug traffickers and firearms traffickers together," says Gleysteen.

The push for an Assault Weapons Ban, or at least an import ban is getting really heavy.
...you think if the border was had a wall and wasn’t so porous maybe there wouldn’t be a “river of iron”?
“Narenko” AK-47?
Hey moron journalist (and I repeat myself) - its spelled NORINCO.
Just like Obama is spelled ZERO.
That would be a "Norinco", and they fetch over a grand in the US.
The .50 cal sniper rifles are very likely the ones we sold to the mexican military back in the 90s.
These stories about Mexico and guns seem to neglect that AK-47s, machine guns, and hand grenades are illegal in the United States.
If both countries hadn’t been turning a blind eye this problem wouldn’t be nearly so bad. Blowback for Mexico is a bitch isn’t it.
Kinda like the mexican government neglects to tell us the serial numbers of all these weapons so we can track where they came from in “America”.
Mexico doesn’t have a gun problem. They have a people problem. Just like here in the US. D.C., Chicago, N.O., Philly, etc all have people problems. Boise ID, on the other hand, has very few gun restrictions and has little gun crime.
Don’t people understand that the Media wants us un-armed like Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot did...no armed responses, even with small arms.
There is nothing between Socialist Utopia (like the UK) and us if we have no way to defend ourselves against the government.
Don’t blame the lack of a border, blame the 2nd amendment.
If fixing any internal problem in Mexico involves restricting my God given rights as an American, that is the bright line they cross at their own peril,,
"Sniper rifles valued at $$8,000 in the U.S. sell for three times as much in Mexico."
Then you have this:
Last year, federal authorities recovered about 7,000 firearms in Mexico and say about ninety percent of them traced back to the U.S.
So how are they getting them?
One way is by paying people without criminal histories to buy the guns.
Nice how nobody actually says that the guns IN Mexico are traced to the US but they simply set up all of the quotes to convince the reader that this IS the case.
Not a single piece of evidence or a direct quote that this is ACTUALLY happening. Just speculation that it might and that it ‘could’.
Total horsesh!t. George Soros, MALDEF, La Raza, Al Qaeda, Holder, the DNC, Brady Campaign and all the rest of the people promoting this hoax should be forced to go down to Mexico to check serial numbers to prove their case. And they should go down there IN PERSON!!
Geez I'm going to California to buy AK’s I can sell them in S. Alabama and NW Florida for 700-750 at guns shows. Think I could get some cheap 7.62X39 ammo too? I haven’t seen any AK type rifle for under $500 since the election
Actually, Mexico does have a gun problem; they don’t allow their citizens to have any, and I’m sure the drug lords who are running the country want to keep it that way.
Kinda like the mexican government neglects to tell us the serial numbers of all these weapons so we can track where they came from in America.
+1 The NRA has asked for these serial numbers so that they can put an end to this lie that all of these weapons are coming from the U.S.. Mexico has not cooperated at all. If they were coming from the United States and the flow could be stopped easily with some cooperation with us that they would do so.
Nothing new. My uncle used to smuggle guns into Mexico during the Great Depression. It’s how he put himself through college.
