Go back into hiding, GOP begs Dick Cheney — please By Molly K. Hooper Posted: 03/23/09 08:10 PM [ET]

Congressional Republicans are telling Dick Cheney to go back to his undisclosed location and leave them alone to rebuild the Republican Party without his input.

Displeased with the former vice-president's recent media appearances, Republican lawmakers say he's hurting GOP efforts to reinvent itself after back-to-back electoral drubbings.

The veep, who showed a penchant for secrecy during eight years in the White House, has popped up in media interviews to defend the Bush-Cheney record while suggesting that the country is not as safe under President Obama.

Rep. John Duncan Jr. (R-Tenn.) said, “He became so unpopular while he was in the White House that it would probably be better for us politically if he wouldn’t be so public...But he has the right to speak out since he’s a private citizen.”

Another House Republican lawmaker who requested anonymity said he wasn’t surprised that Cheney has strongly criticized Obama early in his term, but argued that it’s not helping the GOP cause.

The legislator said Cheney, whose approval ratings were lower than President Bush’s during the last Congress, didn’t think through the political implications of going after Obama.

Cheney did “House Republicans no favors,” the lawmaker said, adding, “I could never understand him anyway.”

He is apparently the only guy out there willing to speak the truth, plainly and clearly, something that seems to trouble our professional politicians.

He is also prescient.

No wonder they can't gain any traction. They don't separate themselves from the RATs. They don't make it clear how they stand for different things and would respond to problems differently.

As the Rats sink in failure more and more there has to be someone to offer an alternative.

Maybe if he and Carter went on a debate tour. That would be fun to watch!

Cheney should give them all the finger. At least he’s not a wussy boy like our current reps. Why don’t these anonymous reps. say it to his face. What a bunch of pathetic losers.

Well if the GOP had any balls then there would be no need for Cheney, but alas, most of the GOP are a bunch of emasculated metrosexuals.

Rush, Cheney, Palin, Sanford and Jindal seem to be the few Republicans willing to go against the rats, and therefore have my backing, and the backing of the base. Besides, when did the rats ever tell idiots like Carter and Randal to shut up?

I am sick and tired of limp-wristed republicans.

Dick Cheney is an intellectual heavyweight, a principled conservative, has won two national elections, and displays real leadership. What do these sad sack excuses for current Republican office holders have to show for themselves?

If the republicans were more like Cheney or had more like Cheney, I’d still call myself a Republican. Clearly, they still don’t get it and until they do, they won’t be getting back their majority.

We need more Republicans like Cheney. He is smart, understands Washington and isn’t scared of anyone. Very few Republicans fit that description.

So the GOP is throwing a hissy fit because the man who actually showed some balls unlike today’s RINO-infested GOP, thinks he’s raining on their gaywad parade?
Give back to the GOP when Palin runs for election. These idiots deserve nothing.

Let’s see, Obama is making America less safe than we were, Cheney says it and this article wants him to go away? Somebody has to say it. If any of the current wimps we have in Office say it every day, Cheney won’t have to. Quit asking us to let Barry ruin this place with total immunity.
