George Soros: A very good crisis
The Australian Wall Street Journal ^ | 3/19/2009 | Peter Wilson

George Soros is having a very good crisis. Other investors are wilting, political power structures are being upended and market economists are scrambling to fashion new theories, but the world's most famous speculator is having a belated heyday.

George Soros is now recognised as one of the most effective philanthropists, finding a new sense of purpose by spending billions to promote civil society in new democracies. "It is, in a way, the culminating point of my life’s work," the 78-year-old says in his heavy Hungarian accent during an interview at his London mansion.

If Soros had retired from the money markets at 48 to become a philosopher – which was his life plan when he set up his own Wall Street hedge fund at the age of 43 – the world is unlikely to have heard of him, as either an ideas man or a money man. Even if he had ended his career 20 years later, he would have been remembered as little more than the big-stakes gambler who "broke the Bank of England" with his 1992 bet against the pound that earned him $US1.1 billion.

I guess it's easy to have a good crisis when your puppet in the White House talks up or down the economy at your behest.

Soros has two shorting hedge fund sidekicks in John Paulson (no relation to hank Paulson I think) and J.C. Flowers.

The Times of London said Paulson & his hedge fund made $10.8 billion last year. Destroying America’s financial system and getting Obama elected were profitable.

Any buses to Soros, Flowers or Paulson’s mansions with out of work people & 401K owners screaming for them to return the tens of billions?

Giving billions to assorted left wing kooks, terrorists, nihilists surely doesn't count as philanthropy, does it?

Paulson realized early that the housing bubble would burst and devised a way to "short" the housing market. He didn't destroy anything, he was just very smart and profited from an out of whack market.

That’s the silliest thing I’ve read in awhile. Don’t you know the left writes history? This POS will be a hero on the order of King Arthur.

Give George Soros to Putin’s Russia— they have a warrant for his arrest for corruption. Someone should tell George his puppet Obama is blowing it Big Time. Lets get some leadership here and not social re-engineering.

He knows pretty much what is going on because he had a hand in it. His elected flunkies are helping much.
