Militia report evokes flurry of criticism (Missouri)
Columbia Daily Tribune ^ | Sunday, March 22, 2009 | T.J. Greaney

A report compiled by federal and Missouri law enforcement officials has ignited a firestorm of criticism that shows no signs of letting up.

A confidential analysis on “The Modern Militia Movement” compiled by the state “fusion center” has drawn livid responses from people and groups listed in the document. State officials — including those at the Missouri Information Analysis Center in Jefferson City, which compiled and disseminated the report to police — stand behind it, contending it has been misinterpreted.

The eight-page MIAC report listed warning signs indicating someone might be a domestic terrorist or a member of a militia. The signs include: subversive literature, certain political bumper stickers and the Gadsden flag of the Revolutionary War with its “Don’t tread on me” motto.

The report also said “militia members most commonly associate with third-party political groups” and listed several political parties and their 2008 presidential candidates.

Supporters of those parties now fear their members will be profiled and are demanding an apology for assertions in the report.

“I’m a father of three, I’m a husband of one and a grandfather of six,” said Chuck Baldwin, the 2008 presidential candidate of the Constitution Party who was named in the document. “And when they read this, my family was extremely distraught.”

Baldwin said Thursday in a phone interview that he, Libertarian Party candidate Bob Barr and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul penned a joint letter to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon demanding he repudiate the report.

McVeigh was never a militia member. He wasn't a Christian either. He said, “Science is my religion.” Just another racist social Darwinist.

Yep. Everything in Obammy’s administration is just a rehash of a Clinton policy, jacked up to be 10x more socialist/fascist than last time.

McVeigh was definitely a leftist. I read some of the stuff he wrote and it sounded like something you would hear at an ANSWER rally.

MU - One student supplied Osama bin Laden with a satellite phone. Another alumni was Saddam’s chemical weapon adviser. Another local business man was sent to jail for funneling funds to terrorist organizations.

I’d bet they were not flying the Gadsen flag.

I think so. Some memo from his administration stated something like “defenders of the Constitution are right wing extremists”... it took a couple seconds for that to sink in. Defenders of the Constitution were a group of people to be feared?

Some one should let the US Navy know that these jackass law enforcement officers at the Missouri Information Analysis Center think they are 'dangerous'.

“When did being a member of a militia, become against the law? Our Second Ammendment even talks about a militia.”

I would say that the OLDEST American Tradition, bar none, is that of being in a Militia.

These 'Missouri law enforcement officials' are either morons or ignorant of American history to come to such a conclusion. SHAME!

"The Navy’s First Jack with its “Don’t Tread on Me” motto flies on the Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor, July 8, 2005. On Sept. 11, 2002, the secretary of the Navy directed all U.S. Navy ships to fly the First Jack in place of the Union Jack for the duration of the war on terrorism. “subversive literature”?

What happened to the first amendment? Since when did we have “subversive literature” in America? I guess the Constitution is “subversive literature” in this Orwellian double speak.

Truth be known, there is a “The Modern Militia Movement” within our country.

This organized movement is, beyond any reasonable doubt, the most dangerous that has ever threatened our country and our way of life. They seek to destroy everything our country has ever stood for in it’s over 200 years of existence.

These cretins are even more dangerous than the terrorists that want to cut off the heads of our children and they are here, within our country.

They do not fly the flag of another country and they live within each community across this once great land. They are called many things, but... they are the democrats.

These jerks can yodel from the mountain top all they want, I will not be intimidated away from my love of country and willingness to defend our liberty and God given rights.

Short version of above..... “screw ‘em”

I was not aware of that. I wonder if that directive has been rescinded yet?

I like that better than the yellow flag, I think I will buy it and fly it.

My USA flag came down on January 20th and I will not raise it again until Buckwheat is no longer contaminating OUR White House.

Back in 2001 Simon Wisenthal Center created CD called “DIGITAL HATE” - was supposedly composed of all the
“hate” sites on the internet. Their idea of hate encompassed web sites for freeze dried food supplier -
was listed as being “survivalist”, a magician who practiced
cowboy action shooting, group called “Women Against Gun Control”, singer Steve Vaus and Paul Weyrich’s Free Congress
Foundation. Seems anybody who mentioned being against
gun control or for the second amendment was tagged as “anti
government/militia.
