Dodd says he's pressing to keep seat

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) said it is his intention to remain in the race for reelection to the end, even if Democratic Party leaders ask him to step aside and retire in the interests of the party.

Dodd, whose role in writing legislation created a loophole for AIG executives to receive bonuses this year, has come under fire from national Republicans who have transformed the Connecticut Senate race into an unlikely priority.

That's my intention," Dodd said when asked if he would seek reelection on a Connecticut Public Television show to air Friday night, brushing off a question about whether he would step aside if asked by party leaders.

"The campaign is now a permanent campaign, and I understand that," Dodd said. "I also understand that I am a target of the Republican National Committee. When you get Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh in one day going after you, you understand you're in the crosshairs."

The Senate Banking Committee chairman has attracted a top-tier challenger in former Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.), who has taken shots at Dodd for his ties to AIG. A Quinnipiac poll released earlier this month showed Simmons with a small, 43-42 percent lead over Dodd.

The Peter Principle has come down like a ton of rocks on Cwis Dodd.

Time for him to go.

Earlier this month Joe Lieberman said he would support Dodd’s reelection bid, even though Dodd abandoned Joe for Ned Lamont in 2006. If Lieberman were to rescind his endorsement, that could easily sink Dodd.

I think Dodd’s plan was to run in the next election...win...and then have one of his daughters come up after that point to take his seat. Its hard to see the party supporting him...and knowing that a Republican has a fairly good chance in beating him. The party will dump him, with no effort...and find some state senator to run. I’m guessing that five or six state senators are meeting this weekend and ironing out their strategy to present to the state Democratic bosses.

No CT Democrat would dare go aginst him. Chris Dodd knows where the Democrat skeletons are buried in Connecticut. Heck, he helped bury most of them.

No, Lieberman is in Tom Dodd’s seat (he beat the uber RINO Lowell Weicker, who beat Dodd). Chris Dodd is in the other seat formerly occupied by Abe Ribicoff.

Lets see, out of the Democrats who were in the recent primary = Edwards who was disgraced as an adulterer and has left the face of this earth, Richardson who was disgraced after fraud in his home state and had to step down, Dodd is a disgrace for this whole economic mess, and may lose his seat, Clinton, Obama, and Biden speak for themselves.

Sad to say the only one I can find out of that primary bunch who is honest with his sick beliefs and somewhat respectable is Kucinich.

And we can’t forget Gravel, who switched from a government loving Democrat to a government hating Libertarian in an obvious ploy to get some attention, and those God awful campaign ads.

It would be nice to get rid of him and Bawney Fwank, too. I’m so sick of seeing those two incompetent and arrogant gasbags blathering on day after day about eeeeeeeevil capitalists when they’re more to blame than anyone else.

Lieberman is a “nice” man. In other words he’s a “pushover”.

Thank you for the clarification. Thomas Dodd gave us the draconian provisions in the GCA of 1968. Next to the Kennedy’s, the Dodd family are the most loathsome pieces of crap to ever hold public office.
