Reporting from Los Angeles and Oakland -- In a blow to the Oakland Police Department, four officers were shot during two incidents this afternoon that began with a routine traffic stop, Oakland authorities said.
City Atty. John Russo said tonight that he had been told all four were dead. However Oakland Police Department spokesman Jeff Thomason disputed that report and said information about the officers would be released at a news conference tonight.
The officers' names have not been released. The suspect was killed in the gunfire.
"It's senseless," Russo said. "We didn't lose four officers in the earthquakes or the worst of the fires. You want to find a meaning in it. It underscores what a difficult job it is to be a police officer."

Apologies- Source is Los Angeles Times NOT London Times
Apologizing for the LA Times is understood here.
WOW, one hour ago four out of four were in “critical” condition.
Oh no. Prayers for the families and fellow officers.
The perp name 27 year old parole Lovelle Mixon
Very bad day for Oakland PD. Sounds like one shooter responsible for all four. What a shame. Prayers for the families.
press conference just completed..
3 officers dead, one gravely wounded but alive, gunman dead
Standby for more gun control. It sounds like an assault rifle carried by a parole.
Not Good. I can not even imagine what the families are going through.
But, how did he pass the background check?
Prayers for the officers and their families.
“Standby for more gun control. It sounds like an assault rifle carried by a parole.”
If so, the perp was already covered by gun control. Parolees aren’t allowed to carry, are they?
” Lovelle Mixon “
Mormon ?
Prayers for the families of these Police Officers.
Well, we can expect AG Moombeam , Sens. Boxer & Feinstein & other Lefties to be out tomorrow “banning guns”...
When one looks at major cities with serious problems (crime, broken economy, lack of civic pride), most are under democrat rule and have been for some time.
“It underscores what a difficult job it is to be a police officer”
Bullsh!t... In a ranking of the 10 most dangerous jobs, police do not even make the list.
Well, in most of the other jobs, I imagine the people you have to interact with aren't strategizing ways to give you lead poisoning, if need be.
I think that would have an effect on job stress, even when nobody's actually shooting at you.
I think it's safe to say "Love-L's" a "Love-R" of Obama, if you catch my drift.
