It was good in the seventies and if anything the "certified angry militant" gig has only gotten sweeter over the years. Just look at the growing budget of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, otherwise known as ACORN. In one city alone -- Baltimore -- ACORN gets $50,000 a year to provide "housing counseling [to] low and moderate income people" -- and it has 1,200 local chapters in 110 American cities.
ACORN has had a busy year. Last year it threw itself into the task of getting new voters registered in time for the presidential election. But the highjinks of ACORN's Project Vote workers became the comic relief of the electoral season. There was the Indiana worker who submitted "more than 2,000 voter registration forms [with] signatures that 'looked exactly the same.' " or the worker in Missouri who submitted 10 forms for the same person. Board of elections officials alleged that one worker had registered dead people and that another had apparently copied out the names of the Dallas Cowboys football team's starting lineup.
This month the group has been busy with its "Home Defenders Campaign" which is intended to help people who have been "caught up in the subprime fiasco" as CNN put it, avoid eviction after they've stopped making mortgage payments. On its website ACORN explains that it sends out "home defenders," "teams [who] will be prepared to mobilize on short notice to peacefully help defend a family's right to stay in their homes until a fair solution to the crisis is put into place by the new Administration." Sometimes the volunteers aren't so peaceful. With TV news cameras rolling, a Baltimore ACORN worker declared "this is our home now" and took wire-cutter to the padlock on a foreclosed home ... [snip]

They plan on estimating the numbers of uncounted illegals for starters. Yes estimating, instead of counting, as is required by the Constitution and prior law.
It helps that some Hispanic surnames are so common. If you throw in a few tens of thousands of non-existent Juan Garcias, Pablo Sanchezes, Jorge Gonzalezes, and Ricardo Gomezes into the mix, who’s going to notice?
The problem with estimating is that it’s easy to conceal. Not so easy to fill out all those forms so that the handwriting isn’t all the same ...
We need to get some lawyers standing by. You cannot count on the ACLU to defend America.
This isn’t “guarding” the hen house, it’s OWNING the hen house!
Who in Commerce did the organizational 'past performance' assessment?
How was past performance weighted relative to the other technical and cost factors?
Who are the proposed key personnel and what are their qualifications and experience?
How was price evaluated? Was a cost realism review done?
Do they have an auditable accounting system?
Do their computer systems meet federal security guidelines given the need to capture personal information?
yes, but what? Unless there is a massive organizing effort on the American side there is nothing we can do but watch our beloved country go down in flames. It is just so frustrating.
When is anyone going to start talking about all the tax dollars that ACORN owes?
Most corrupt presidency ever!
