Without the Conservatives, McCain would have been routed (WAY worse than he was). And were a true Conservative to stand as a candidate, Obama would have been soundly defeated. As always, it is the Republicans to lose.

However, now that voters have seen Obama and the Dems in action this year, Link: The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 41% said they would vote for their district’s Republican candidate while 39% would choose the Democrat. That poll had favored Dems every week for at least 2 years. In fact that poll before election day 2008 favored the Dems by 7 points. The numbers can change in the future of course, but I am beginning to see a few rays of hope.
