Opinion: Looks like the honeymoon is over for Obama

Opinion: Looks like the honeymoon is over for Obama David Broder The Daily Republic Published Wednesday, March 18, 2009 WASHINGTON — Two months into his presidency, it is far too soon to make any judgments about Barack Obama’s prospects. All we really know is that he has assembled the rudiments of an administration and launched a batch of ambitious but unproven initiatives.

But it is not too soon to say that the Obama honeymoon period is over.

His critics in Washington and around the world have found their voices, and they are subjecting his administration to the kind of skeptical questioning that is normal for chief executives once they settle into their jobs.

Obama still enjoys broad public support, but it is stronger for him personally than for his policies. Some of those policies are bafflingly complex, and all of them are untested.

Among those who follow government closely, there has been an unmistakable change in tone in the last few weeks. These are not little Limbaughs hoping that Obama fails. They are politicians and journalists measuring him with the same skeptical eye they apply to everyone else.

I think the shift began when Obama moved beyond the stimulus bill to his speech to the joint session of Congress and his budget message. For the first time, the full extent of his ambitions for 2009 became clear — not just stopping and reversing the steep slide in the economy but launching highly controversial efforts in health care, energy and education.

I guess that’s what happens when the groom tries to murder the bride on the honeymoon.

If he were smart, and he’s not, Barak Obama would get the LBJ tape and practice these words: “I shall not seek, and I will not accept the nomination of my party for another term as your President”

My guess is that the Blagojevich-in-Chief will just read them off the teleprompter.

The honeymoon is over because Obama is showing administrative incompetence (which anyone with a brain knew he would) and because he is trying the cram down the most left wing, big spending, big taxing agenda in history down the throats of the American people. I respect the fact that George W. Bush says Obama deserves his silence, but that does not mean I have to be quite. Obama is inept and a menace to this nation. He should be told “no” at every turn.

“...not just stopping and reversing the steep slide in the economy but launching highly controversial efforts in health care, energy and education.”

The economy is just getting in his way of implementing socialist controls before 2010.

Exactly!!! He's sticking to his agenda and the rabid rats in Congress will do what they have to do. None of that gentlemanly "power sharing" for them.

Unfortunately for him, the Congressional Majority and it’s individual members do not feel like being sacrificed.

Especially after this little Bonus-Gate and the attempted administration shafting of Chris Dodd.

I predict a sudden rash of self-preservation sweeping over the Democrat Barons and Dukes of Earl.

Obama is inept and a menace to this nation. He should be told “no” at every turn.

One has to admit, however, that Obama has been proving many of his preelection detractors wrong in one regard. They were saying that he would be learning on the job...clearly Obama isn't learning anything. He's just a Marxist bull in the china shop of America obliviously smashing and destroying as he moves about.
