Great catch. I hadn’t noticed that discrepancy in the article with the actual Roll Call vote.
Thanks for noticing.

Oh yeah, and the language says it wants gather information on how to implement this community service requirement for EVERY INDIVIDUAL.
So you can sit back high on your laurels of not deserving this because you didn’t vote for Obama. But you better get an orange vest to sit with.

"Also, wheres the media coverage? Any Republicans out there telling us about this? Did I miss them on TV?"
See my Post #19. I was surprised by Cantor's office reaction to my inquiry HR1388.
Between AIG, the pending Budget, Obama's daily pronouncements from his teleprompter, Congress is spinning. I am not trying to excuse them for their seemingly lack of interest but Obama is suffocating to me imagine working with him in close proximity.
The incompetence of the Administration and many in Congress...I think everyone is spending up a storm and ducking for cover but unfortunately for us not doing a very good job at their jobs.
I think Obama/Rahm's plan of distraction and overwhelm "so they don't know what we just did syndrome is really on the march."

90% of the youngsters that get drafted into the brownshirts are little morons that voted for Bambi.
The spoiled little brats will NOT like forced service. And guess what Mommy and Daddy wont be able to help, and (in most cases) wont be able to buy their way out of the service like they buy their little darlings out of everything else.
Ergo: they may pay a little closer attention to electing socialist vermin that yank away their freedom and cut into their video game, teevee, and party time.
Huh?! Silver lining...So serves em right?! Nevermind the ramifications of this—constitutional, social, economical, etc. Just gotta stick it to those younger adults that voted dem.
What about those that did not vote dem (like my 3?!) or those who did not have ANY choice because they were not yet able to register or vote because they were too young?!! So silver lining is that we all suffer for bad decisions of some...I totally disagree :(

What else can we do?? I am not sure. Keep the pressure on.Don't let up. Keep revealing waht is inside these Bills and Amendments because Congress has a nasty habit of reading Bills."
I am sure there is plenty of things we can do it is just a balancing everything and trying to get more time in the day to write that last email or make that phone call. I don't know really.
Maybe a start would be to see how your Rep voted, call him/her and express your concerns which many of you have already done and then some.
Maybe keep promoting that Petition. What do you think? I 'll find it on the other thread and pull in in here.
Some here dislike PETITIONS so I am not sure. I would love it if more Conservative Bloggers could link to the PETITION maybe to drive people there.
What do you think we should do?

What I am seeing is a vote of 321-105, not 24-174. There are about 426 Reps in the House.
To: Docs Galore
The link to roll call showed 248 to 174. Sorry about the typo on my part.

"Pretty much by party line. Wonder why 8 abstained?"
Very good question. Isn't that the same thing as voting "present" or is it saying,"I just don't care enough to vote?"
Either way it is a despicable reflection of their character on their part. It is annoying when I see that or when they don't even show up which occurs quite a few times especially on Friday and Monday.
I haven't yet really checked out the link on the Roll Call to see how my Rep voted but I am headed there next.
Being absent or abstaining really bugs me as a voter and a constituent. It makes me feel like they are AFRAID for whatever reason but I find it unacceptable in my book at least.
It is weak, lame and cowardly.

6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational back grounds."
I think this is a huge deal that is going unreported. In my faxes I sent to Pence, etc. I pointed out the use of "mandatory" in two places.
I haven't seen any language on the actual AMENDMENTS, aka Earmarks.
Take a gander at Amendment 11. It is a dooozy.

I think somehow we need to get this info out to young people/college aged people, in any way we can. They would be very affected by this and I would think even the liberal ones wouldn’t like it.

I think you are right. My congressman is very conservative, but when I called yesterday, (twice), I didn’t get a reply until this morning, and I think they probably just didn’t know much about it! I did get a phone call from a staffer this morning to let me know our congressman would be voting against it, but I think maybe it was almost seen as small change compared to all the stuff going on. Distract and overwhelm... nobody could keep up with all this stuff! It is frightening!

Thanks for the update. Everyone keep an eye on this an call and let Congress know what you think of forced servitude, which is against the 13th Amendment of the Constitution.
P.S. My guys Tom McClintock (I voted for him when he ran for Governor of California against that loser liberal Arnold), Daryll Issa and Duncan Hunter all voted “NO”. Unlike the majority in this Congress, they represent and listen to their constituents. They are all very good men and true Americans. There is hope yet.

Now I think you are on to something.
If parents outside of Freerepublic really knew about this “GIVE” Bill I think heads would really roll and the Media would pick up on it.

They can try to turn this into "involuntary servitude" but it won't stand.
To: joygrace
I just emailed my Congressman Tom Petri and thanked him for voting NAY to this involuntary servitude bill.

To prevent duplication, be sure to always use the source headline. Thanks.

I thought MAYBE Michael Steele
____________
Steele is NOT on our side. he’s every bit as much a Trojan Horse as zer0 is. Unless people realize what is going on, we are doomed. They can pass their little slavery bill, I couldn’t care less. I won’t be participating and neither will anyone else in my family. They can kiss my A**.
