Got issues?!

I have no idea who Natasha Richardson was, personally, don’t follow the tv/news tabloids...I have heard of Liam Neeson. It is common human sympathy to wish the best for her children and husband at this time, so far, no one here is ‘obsessing’ about her. Simply some armchair quarterbacks trying to figure out how someone could die in this manner.

Actually not terribly uncommon. The London Telegraph, I think, posted an article yesterday where an expert called it ‘Talk and Die’. People bang their heads sharply, shake it off, say they’re fine, carry on normally enough for an hour or so... then severe headache, followed by unconsciousness and death.

Natasha’s fall must have caused some kind of bleed in her head. I think the key to survival of this type of accident is quick medical attention, which poor Natasha didn’t think was warranted. She thought she was fine. I might have thought the same if it had been me. I wouldn’t have wanted to make a big fuss out of what I perceived as my own silly clumsiness.

Really a horrible. horrible tragedy. I feel really sorry for her husband and sons. I’m not really a big show biz/celebrity follower. But, I knew of her due to Parent Trap 2, which I watched with my daughter a million times. I thought she was such a lovely woman. Her husband seemed devoted to her, and together they produced two handsome sons. I pray for them this evening, and that the love of their family and friends will be a comfort to them.

Keep your loved ones real close to you folks. None of us knows when our time will come. It might come in the blink of an eye as it did for Natasha Richardson. Be certain everything has been said that needs to be said. Our lives are just a vapor, one minute here... then eternity is upon us.

Oh, Please!

She was up and speaking, laughing, etc. The Tremblant medics were with her the whole time, she even signed a release saying she didn’t want or need medical attention.

One Hour later, she reported a head ache, so they called 911 and transported her to a hospital immediately.

Thanx. I consider myself impervious to family tragedies, but I miss here.

I was 17 when my Dad died, and I was his favorite.

I understand.

Happens every day - several times. I saw a guy fall off the second step of a ladder - slight bump on the head. Dead 4 hours later.

A little over a month ago our son was attacked from behind by a gang of seven near his fraternity house. One of the assailants whom he doesn’t know and who we’ve since found out practices martial arts, punched my son in the head rendering him unconscious and he fell to the ground. The other guys took turns kicking my son in the head and upper body for several minutes according to a witness (yes, who did nothing to stop it). The police found my son lying on the sidewalk in a puddle of his own blood. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. They released him too soon for my liking as he still didn’t have memory of some peoples names or voices or faces. My sister in law who is a doctor told me of these slow bleeds called “contusions” which are more dangerous than concussions because a concussion will show up on the CT scan right away whereas the contusion may bleed slowly for days or weeks and the person may be in trouble without knowing it. That’s my son’s story. I believe he came to within one kick in the head of his life.

So sad. I saw a picture of Vanessa Redgrave going into the hospital last night. She looked absolutely devastated. My heart breaks for the family.

This sounds like pretty much the same thing that killed race driver Mark Donahue back in the 70’s. He crashed and banged his head, but walked away. Hours later, he developed a headache, was taken to the hospital, and died the next day.

Oh, no. Very sincere condolences to her husband and sons. I’m not a celebrity “groupie” in any manner, and only saw one of her movies, but she struck me as a very talented, personable lady who loved her family dearly. My mom died under similar circumstances, so I can imagine the void they are feeling now.

I’ve never understood the need for anyone to come on a thread and post such comments. If it bothers you so much why invest the energy?

I was a EMT for 19 years, and I have seen this happen. A simple fall, person talking and vitals were good pupils were equal and responsive, no other deficit's. While transporting to the hospital, every goes to crap and we pull up the the ER doing chest compressions and bagging the person.
The human body is a strange thing. What kills one person leave the next with a bad headache.
I hope the family finds peace and comfort.

What a sad thread. I’m so sorry for all your losses. Prayers for eternal rest for those who have passed on, and prayers for the continued good health of those who have recovered from injuries.

Hundreds of others die a each day yet some of you are star struck and just have OBSESS over this one death of an actress.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

-John Donne

Yes the brain is amazing and strange and like you said what it can or cannot endure is definitely one of those scientific mysteries. My husband should not be alive, nor should my cousin...both suffered brain injuries and bleeding within the brain. I believe it is one of those things we will never be able to completely explain as we are a creation of God and He as we know, works in mysterious ways.
