The balance in international military power may be shifting again. In the last two years, Russia, India and China have all announced or clarified major defense programs that include everything from the development of advanced fighters to upgrading aircraft carriers.

More good news in light of us having a communist stooge in the White House.
A nation’s finanical health is a leading indicator of its economic health. Its economic health is a leading indicator of its military strength.
I can’t get any more basic than that. Unfortunately, the current adminstration is trying to destroy all three.
Meanwhile the Red in the White House is cutting back on US military R&D, new equipment purchases, and likely O&M funds to keep what we have working.
Elections have consequences. This last one had some doozies, lots of them.
Who is looking at them? The hype drum beat is Iran as our threat. About time we paid attention to those beyond potential nuclear weapons.
Needs repeating.
If you were running China or Russia, and your #1 enemy for the last 60 - 70 years put a weak d!ck like Barry in charge, wouldn’t you seek to take advantage of the Chump?
Umm, China and Russia both have economic problems on par or worse than ours, their combined GDPs are a small fraction of ours, and they both have ridiculous demographic issues several times worse than ours to contend with now (for russia) or in the near future (for china). Calm down guys, Red Dawn was just a movie =)
ping (it’s not much, but it does mention carriers...)
What you've stated is true. But don't assume that the problems these countries have will prevent them from soon becoming very dangerous adversaries again. (Which I think they are planning on becoming.) These two countries have no compunction about solving their internal population problems quickly with brutal methods.
While all that is true, although if the price of oil climbs just a little more, the Russians won't be too badly off, they are still increasing their military spending at a fairly high rate.
The Soviet economy was pretty sick the whole post WW-II period, but they were still a signifgent threat. Until very recently China, which still holds lots of our "paper", was very healthy, especially for a "Red" country. They are still building lots of new classes of ships, if not at a super high rate, and have modernized, but downsized somewhat, their land forces. The Russians are complaining out their copying Soviet/Russian weapons designs which they once merely produced under license.
You can bet they are planning something. They have a full drawer full of fun stunts they can do to us.
Goal One—get the price of oil up.
Goal Two—humble the USA and make eat crow.
Goal Three—show USA is a paper tiger who will do nothing.
Where to watch:
A) Coast of China, Taiwan, in a year Nationalist China will be no more.
B) Israel forced to make crippling concessions. Look to Lebanon as a hot spot.
C) Cuba, watch as the Russians try to make inroads into Central and South America.
