Soon the Obama neighborhood brigades will be monitoring your electricity and water usage too. Off to the re-education camps for keeping your houses at the Non-government mandated settings and overwatering your lawns.

Under Obama and the Rats our Freedom is dying a little bit more each day.

OK. Stop collecting at a home and then see what happens in the neighborHOOD. Typical Cleveland area. Watch out Detroit, you’re next, if they’re any people left.

This kind of thing is ridiculous. Seems like the waste management company should do the “management”. Why does the homeowner have to recycle? Seems like the point at which trash should be sorted should be after it is picked up and gets to the main waste management building.

Could be a growth industry for non-violent offenders in jail, although I’m sure trash sorters would be quickly unionized.

I would get the list of people who donated to Dhims and dump recyclable crap in their garbage.

Do a new one each week.

Recycling aluminum makes sense. Recycling cardboard makes sense, because cardboard usually accumulates at retail locations, so there's a lot of volume in a few places.

Recycling newspaper is about breakeven.

Recycling anything else is ridiculous. Recycling glass bottles is just plain idiotic. You've got four different colors - clear, blue, brown and green -- and they don't mix well. One pyrex glass in a recycling container makes about 2 tons of glass unusable.

But most ridiculous of all: glass is made from SAND. When there's no more sand in the Mohave, you can have my empty Beck's bottles. Until then, I'm tossing them in the trash.

Recycling plastic is stupid. The resins don't mix well, and it seems like it way more trouble than it's worth.

This just proves that recycling is nothing that it pretends to be. If recycling made any sense, it would be economical. If it made economic sense, there would be money in it. If there was money in it, no one would be forced to do it, much less be forced to pay a fine for not doing it.

Who receives the money that the soda manufacturers pay for the cheap aluminum in recycled cans?

It’s been like that in my town for more than 10 years.

They also have a rule that you must “clean” glass recyclables before putting them in the bin. I refuse to pay for the water and sewage fee it would cost to clean them.

One of their more idiotic rules is that you may not put recyclables in a recyclable plastic bag before putting them in the bin.

Lakewood known as the Gold Coast for its high GLBTS communities deserves this. I live one county over and we just had our recycling service canceled due to the high costs

>>The new law authorizes the city to either charge residents a fee for city employees to separate recyclable materials or to stop trash collection to a home altogether.<<

Excellent. You can just save it up and haul it yourself to the dump. Or the dumpster at the nearest apartment complex.

This is assuming the customer can opt to cancel trash service.

One of their more idiotic rules is that you may not put recyclables in a recyclable plastic bag before putting them in the bin.

Here, you must put bottles and cans in recyclable plastic bags or they will not take them. They won't even take a 5-gallon plastic detergent bottle if it is set on the curb without a little plastic grocery bag around it.

Conversely, if you set out your paper shreddings in a tied-up recyclable clear plastic bag, they won't take them. So you must put the stuff from the shredder in a paper bag, which means it will blow all over tarnation; or you must use an expensive corrugated carton instead of re-using the carton.

If this community is using the same company as mine they don’t need to necessarily sort their recyclables.

They can use one blue bag for all plastic, glass, and cans.

How much do I have to pay to keep the less fortunate from going through my trash every week and stealing the recyclables?

Well the article says that the city can stop trash collection, but I doubt they would allow the home owner to cancel it. Where would the city get its tax money from?

Well, I’ve visited Lakewood, Ohio and it’s a very liberal city with Ohio’s largest gay community, or so some silly leftist lady told me proudly.

Let the buggers separate their trash.

Shiny new recycling bins showed up at every house on the street last year. Since they’re not charging me [directly] for the collection, I make the tiny effort to keep most of the trash sorted. It’s not worth it for me to pay for recycling service.

We already have that here, along with 2 “garbage police” that drive around making sure you go by town rules for garbage.

I’ve worked out a system with my local dumpster divers. I wait to see them coming down the street before I start setting it out, get them to back their truck into my driveway and load it up. Saves me the trouble of hauling it out to the street and they get a full load. My regular garbage doesnt go out until I leave in the morning so its not out all night :)
