The dishonest "Blame Dodd" scheme from Treasury officials -(or Dems eating your own)
salon.com ^ | March 17 2009 | Glenn Greenwald

There is a major push underway -- engineered by Obama's Treasury officials, enabled by a mindless media, and amplified by the right-wing press -- to blame Chris Dodd for the AIG bonus payments. That would be perfectly fine if it were true. But it's completely false, and the scheme to heap the blame on him for the AIG bonus payments is based on demonstrable falsehoods.

Jane Hamsher has written the definitive post narrating and indisputably documenting what actually took place. The attempt to blame Dodd is based on a patently false claim that was first fed to The New York Times on Saturday by an "administration official" granted anonymity by Times reporters Edmund Andrew and Peter Baker (in violation, as usual, of the NYT anonymity policy, since all the official was doing was disseminating pro-administration spin). The accusation against Dodd is that there is nothing the Obama administration can do about the AIG bonus payments because Dodd inserted a clause into the stimulus bill which exempted executive compensation agreements entered into before February, 2009 from the compensation limits imposed on firms receiving bailout funds. Thus, this accusation asserts, it was Dodd's amendment which explicitly allowed firms like AIG to make bonus payments that were promised before the stimulus bill was enacted.

Here my favorite line from the story.....Can that be any clearer?

"IT WAS OBAMA OFFICIALS, NOT DODD, WHO DEMANRD THAT ALREADY-VESTED BONUS PAYMENTS BE EXEMPT."

Sorry folks, I am sitting back laughing at this really horrible situation that is starting to get the attention of my demented side while I am watching the left eat the left.

dodd authored the amendment and his name is on the bottom line... if hussein ordered it so, then dodd is one stupid bastid for trusting a friggin’ muzzie. Their shared marxism overcame common sense. I hope every dim in America fails and I hope their party and ideology disappear from the face of the Earth.

Not sure what the truth is here. I have heard several “versions”. The important fact is that this is what happens when Congress rushes to pass socialist legislation - they get it WRONG!

Just damn!

Team 0 used Dodd as their patsy?!

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/17/aig.bonuses.congress/

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd, D-Connecticut, who originally proposed the executive compensation provision, said he did not include the exemption clause, which said new rules “shall not be construed to prohibit any bonus payment required to be paid pursuant to a written employment contract executed on or before February 11, 2009.”

In an interview with CNN, Dodd denied inserting that exemption at the 11th hour, and insisted he doesn’t know how it got there.

“When I wrote the language there was no such language like that,” Dodd told CNN Tuesday.

Multiple Senate Democratic leadership sources also deny knowing how the exemption got into the bill.

The mystery isn’t just how what was effectively a protection for AIG was put into the stimulus bill — it’s also how a provision intended to prevent AIG from giving executive bonuses, was taken out.

Six (6) separate FR threads on this hysterical non-issue in the last 1 hour!

Six out of 19 threads.

Which is about 1/3 or 33 percent.

Sleazy Harry Reid is the now the boss of America’s formerly largest insurance company.

A pittance in oontractual raises versus the new Socialist agenda! Bravo America! Priorities totally askew once again!

So salon.com's defense of Dodd is essentially that he tried to add a bill of attainder as an amendment?

With friends like that....

Looking forward to the tough Wolf Blitzer interview on this:

Blitzer: Senator Dodd, how did the AIG exemption get into the stimulus bill?

Senator Dodd: I dunno, bet it was something the Republicans did to embaress me.

Blitzer: There you have the breaking news on CNN, irrefutable statements that it was the Republicans on the Hill that are to blame for the insertion of a clause the exempted AIG from bonus restraint. Tune in as we dig deeper into this new Republican scandal.
