My own theory is that far too many otherwise devoted liberals have skin in the capitalist game, in the form of their own jobs, investments, pension funds, etc., to follow their Pied Piper off the cliff. Even State/Municipal employees and public schoolteachers are starting to find out they’re not recession-proof either. I believe that when it sinks in that the Messiah really does mean to beggar all of us in his glorious Brave New World, 98% of otherwise true-believing Kool-Aid drinkers will suddenly feel the cold terror that we are already feeling when they contemplate their beloved coffee-shop/faculty lounge/student union vaporous theorizings taking brutal solid form that they won’t be able to pull him off his throne fast enough. Just think, for instance, what will happen when the various sacred cows of the welfare state realize that the money to support them just isn’t going to be there and can no longer be conjured? Smiling promises and reassuring sonorous speeches aside?
How many Democrat pols do you think are going to stand by their man when their limos start getting swarmed Rostenkowski-style (Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act, 1989)? That “Slobbering Love Affair” of Bernie Goldberg’s description is already starting to show a few cracks. Unless The One can promise to preserve THEIR jobs in the New Order, I can’t see the MSM sticking to him to the bitter end. Jimmy Carter was going to be their golden boy once upon a time, but they turned on him for a lot less.
If worst comes to worst, considering this latest gratuitous slap in the face from the Big “O” (i.e., charging wounded veterans for the cost of their treatment) do you think you and your comrades-in-arms will do a Tiannenmen and fire cannister at your fellow citizens when the Maximum Leader orders you to defend him and his regime? I smell burning Ceaucescu.
