The Dissing of Laura Bush
By WILLIAM MCGURN
By choosing Fort Bragg for her first official trip outside the capital last Thursday, Michelle Obama signaled that she will use her position as First Lady to promote one of America's most deserving causes: our military families.
Plainly the families loved it. Just look at the smiles on those children as she read them "The Cat in the Hat."
So it was just a little disconcerting the next morning to hear the First Lady explain how she came to this issue during last year's campaign.
"I think I was like most Americans," she told ABC News. "Pretty oblivious to the life of military families. Sort of taking it for granted."
Perhaps Mrs. Obama did take these families for granted. Surely, however, it's extraordinary to suggest that "most Americans" did the same.
Certainly not the McCains, the Bidens and the Palins, each of whom had at least one son in uniform. More to the point, the presidential campaign in which she says the issue started "taking shape" for her came nearly seven years into a war that has inspired millions across America to step forward to help our troops.

“She is NOT a first lady and never will be.”
She is not the first lady on more than one level. For one thing, she isn’t a “lady”. For another, Hussein is a foreigner so not qualified to be president so she’s not a legit 1st lady.
As I wrote a couple days ago, the hag needs to go away and do whatever it is that harpy hags do. Using the military, whom she despises, as props in a photo op is inexcusable.
Another thing: She needs to tell her godforsaken husband to quit walking like a freakin’ pimp. They criticized Bush for his “swagger”. Hussein’s metrosexual sashaying makes me crazy.
“The account I read written by a Delta Force member was that the Navy insisted on having its own mechanics tend to the Delta Force helicopters while they were on ship en route, and that Delta Force learned a hard lesson that only their own mechanics should tend to their equipment.”
Col. Kyle, the commander of the Air force element and landing zone where the mission was called off at, says very plainly that they had the helicopters but that two Marine pilots just refused to complete the mission which took the two choppers out of the equation. The Marine Corp helicopter leader had a mechanically perfect chopper for instance but fled back to the ship with his co-pilot protesting (co-pilot wanted to continue the mission).
I don’t recall Beckwith ever saying anything about Delta having the capability or desire of doing their own maintenance on the coptors, Kyle does describe the navy’s failing on that score though.
It was after this debacle that the Army formed the 160th.SOAR(A)
“She needs to tell her godforsaken husband to quit walking like a freakin pimp.”
LOL It drives me crazy too. I call it a “prison walk “ or “prison shuffle”. Wearing leg irons causes that. With him, perhaps it’s genetic or the telegraphing his future, I hope. ;>)
As with Bush, I have the same “cocky” walk. I purposely make it even more noticeable when I am in public and within sight of libs... I know it makes them think of Bush, so they get more uncomfortable. My chest is much larger than Bush’s, so it’s even more intimidating. LOL
I am told that I have intense piercing eyes and I do have a great smile, but when my face is relaxed, it’s been said that I look dangerous and as if I am about to kill. My wife doesn’t like me to play this way, but I have fun with it. LOL I wanted to add a slight growl and a bit of drool to my act, but my wife put her foot down on that idea,
Good point. I wouldn't put it past these thugs to muscle their way around it, though. (This administration is like a very bad dream. Our country is being weakened on so many fronts.)
***Michelle, are you proud yet?
Because for the first time in my life Im really ashamed of my country.***
Oh, you are SO right!
Both Beckwith and Kyle they were not the Gen Staff planners and had to work with what the brass “under direction of jimah” cooked up. From recollection of the situation, it was poor planning to place helos and fixed wing so close together on a dark night desert LZ.
Then again that’s just my Monday Morning Q-back opinion.
Do we not agree that when dims are CIC a unusual level of irrational reaction in Mil situations occur?
Beckwith was eager to go but two Marine pilots backed out of the mission, that meant that although mechanically they had the minimum aircraft to proceed with one in reserve, the men flying them refused to pilot them, when they were pulling up stakes and leaving the debacle is when one of the helicopter pilots crashed into the C-130 killing Air Force and Marine personnel.
Plan your work, work your plan.
Beckwith didn’t say anything about Carter although when you read how the planning and training went you can see obstacles that the administration and the Pentagon put in Beckwith’s and the army’s way.
Beckwith did despise Mondale though, in his book and in person he described how Mondale did not have a clue or any interest, how he showed up for the White House briefing in sweats, laid his swinging leg over a chair and seemed not the least bit interested in the daring plan’s detailed description that Charlie was giving Carter.
Fantastic post! And this was just a sampling of the public contact Pres. and Laura Bush had with our military. Our last real president did so much more off camera, visiting with soldiers’ families in private at so many of his visits to our cities, visiting Walter Reed, etc.
I concur.
