GOP congressman introduces birth certificate bill (prove it 0bama)
Wash Times ^ | 3 16 2009 | Bill Posey

Posted on 03/16/2009 7:42:00 PM PDT by dennisw

Freshman Republican Rep. Bill Posey of Florida has introduced a bill aimed at quelling persistent Internet rumors from the right-wing base of the GOP about President Obama's citizenship.

"Opponents of President Obama are raising the birth certificate issue as a means of questioning his eligibility to serve as president," Posey said in a statement. "This bill, by simply requiring such documentation for future candidates for president, will remove this issue as a reason for questioning the legitimacy of a candidate elected as president."

Several right-leaning outlets, such as WorldNetDaily and Newsmax, repeatedly have questioned Obama's citizenship. Posey's bill, H.R. 1503, would "require the principal campaign committee of a candidate for election to the office of president to include with the committee's statement of organization a copy of the candidate's birth certificate, together with such other documentation as may be necessary to establish that the candidate meets the qualifications for eligibility to the Office of President under the Constitution."

WND has chronicled several legal challenges filed by those who believe Obama may not be eligible under the Constitution to be president. Obama's supporters have dismissed them as "garbarge."

Last year, while these allegations were in full force, several outlets, including the Los Angeles Times and the Daily Kos, reprinted a copy of Obama's Hawaiian birth certificate to quiet allegations regarding Obama's citizenship.

You said — “Shutting the stable door after the horse - has taken a big shit - and bolted”

Well, considering that the 21st President of the United States (Chester Arthur) did the same thing, I would say it’s about time to fix the problem... LOL...

You said — “Odds of passage: Zero. Point. Zero.”

While that may be true in the Congress (and I can see why you would say so...), it’s not true in the state legislatures. There are already three states, that I know of, who are doing this very same thing for their state ballot (which would include the President). They are Arizona, Missouri and Oklahoma. I am in Oklahoma and working with that one (as a citizen...).

These stand a very high chance of succeeding, as opposed to the one in Congress. I would advise people to work on their own state legislature to get these things on there.

Can you imagine the impact of having about 20 states rejecting Obama on their state ballots... LOL...

A second bill needs to be submitted and passed that defines what documents are acceptable to prove place of birth, and which ones aren’t (like the Hawaii cert of live birth) and why.

A third needs to define natural born citizen.

Yeah, theoretically, just one is needed to get the issue out on the table, so to speak. But, it’s also conceivable that Obama could bypass just one state, possibly, by trying to sue the state into getting his name on the ballot, but figuring that he’ll lose anyway (therefore, bypassing the state, as the bottom-line result).

But, if he tried to do that with 20 or so states, it would be impossible for him to “get by” with all those states doing it. That’s what I was thinking.

Aside from that — yeah, we can start pulling out the question — “Are you better off then you were four years ago?!” LOL...

You are kind of right that with the media being so awful these days. The issue would not be reported on

Say Wyoming, Alabama, Mississippi and Idaho demand proof of birth certificate. 0bomo writes them off as grumpy racists and campaigns on this

Well, the key here (on that argument) is to apply this across-the-board, for all candidates and races. For example, in Oklahoma, the bill says this is for all candidates running for office, from the President, down to the lower offices. Of course, Oklahoma also passed the toughest immigration bill around and all our south-of-the-border friends left the state, too... LOL...

Seems like he has been screwing us for 100 years. He has done so much damage to the country already, it should have taken a hundred years, even for a democrat.

Nothing has been said in the media about cosponsors of this bill.

There has to be more than one freshman representative with some backbone.

1912 and there after, congress is going to enforce what already exits in the constitution?
