It seems like Obama's paint is thinning in places and his Socialist underbelly might actually be becoming visible to regular Americans.  So the left has decided to trot out folks, whom we'll call Socialism-Deniers, to tell us we cannot believe what we see with our own eyes.

Today's Socialism-Denier is the editor of Socialist Magazine.  This is a good one for the left. After all, who better than an admitted Socialist to prove definitively that Obama is not one of them?  In a piece in the Washington Post titled, "Obama's No Socialist. I Should Know," Billy Wharton talks about how the Obama-effect is making Socialism much more popular.  Their party's rise to newfound prominence began when Republicans made the rather unremarkable observation that Obama is a Socialist.

An economy where banks are are not private companies, but are partially or wholly owned by the government, is Socialism.   A government-run, non-free market health system is Socialist.

The Liberals are clearly terrified that the American people are starting to realize that Obama is a Socialist.  That is why they trot out people like Wharton to try to peel off that label before it sticks permanently.  The problem is that just as a tiger is a tiger, a Socialist is a Socialist.    You can call a tiger a dog, but that doesn't change what it is.  Obama is a Socialist, and the louder Obama's supporters try to shout their denials and vilify their opponents, you will know by the volume and the venom, that we are right.

Obama is a Socialist at best...it only rolls downhill from there. I can’t stand his anti-America, anti-Capitalist, anti-freedom UNCONSTITUTIONAL, ramming it down our throats, taking away our freedoms “platform.” Impeach. Impeach. Impeach. He is not protecting our Constitution. He might as well set it on fire.

Saul Alinsky on "Change"...
From Rules for Radicals, Alinsky outlines his strategy in organizing, writing:

"There's another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevsky said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution."

A Landslide Mandate For Change

Congratulations on an extraordinary history making election!

We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-people’s movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all people’s movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.

The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and people’s unity.

There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.

The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.

While Alinski may have been right wrt strategy, I think it is just possible that nero and his fellow travellers jumped the shark. The real groundswell for change is rising - witness the tea parties - but NOT in the socialist direction. Quite the opposite in fact.
