A thick plastic tube would probably defeat any handheld detector, but what will REALLY defeat it is the fact that any buried weapons are likely to be in the middle of hundreds or thousands of square miles of untracked wilderness. Mine would be, anyway.

But they have to know where to look, first. Spread all kinds of pieces of metal a couple hundred yards from your cache as decoys. Also bury them in unexpected places, like on top of a fresh grave. The metal vault will defeat any metal detection equipment and if the deceased was a patriot, they won’t mind being a sentinel. And if the deceased is a anti-gun liberal, you will piss them off for eternity. Bury near or at the edge of a junkyard.

The key is to sow the area with plenty of steel rubbish,heavy nuts and bolts,even car parts like brake drums,rotors anything that`ll give a false signal.The problem is with ground penetrating radar,could metal sheeting,tin foil sheets,aluminum siding,work?

I think it’s useless to hide them on your property. Hide them off property. Dig deep,6-7 feet. There is no way in hell they can scour every square foot of barren land and they won’t. They will hope people turn them over, they make search your home and property. Do you have any idea how much manpower it would take to even cover every square foot of ONE neighborhood with a metal detector?

If you put your cache in the front yard, expect it to be found. If you go back into the woods a few miles from anyone and dig a hole in a thicket, it's quite a bit less likely the obamanistas will be out there with metal detectors.

Just find a good reliable terrain feature that isn't likely to change within your lifetime as a guidepost. Using a GPS to map the location might not be a good idea if they decide to start playing with the accuracy.
