On Wednesday, Governor Pat Quinn will deliver his own political eulogy when he proposes a 50% hike in the Illinois state income tax and a corresponding hike in the state's corporate income tax during his budget address.
As if businesses had any less reason to locate here or residents needed any more reasons to leave.
Increasing the tax on work--you know, so we get less of it--comes on the heels of a state report that Illinois lost 175,000 jobs in the last year.
Quinn, doing his best Obama impersonation, is selling his tax hike as a "reform" to make the system more "fair", including tax relief for people who effectively pay no income tax.
The less money people make, the more of a tax cut they'll see, Quinn told The Associated Press. This will be a veritable windfall to the unemployed and those soon to join their ranks. Quinn is going to cut the taxes they are not paying on the income they do not have. After he is de-elected Governor, you can find Pat Quinn on late night infomercials peddling no money down real estate schemes.
Quinn did concede that "some" Illinois residents will have a higher tax burden. You might be wondering how to discern if your family is one of the "some". Here's a test: if you pay state income tax, then you, my friend, are part of the "some".
The "some", in short, are those pigeons in Illinois who play by the rules only to be scammed for an ever-increasing portion of their incomes to finance a lawless political class.
Have you heard about the big spending cuts proposed? Have you read about the ideas to overhaul the public sector systems that chronically fail to deliver on their promises?
That's right, you haven't. Because spending cuts and system change ideas are not part of the Springfield lexicon.
You play the rules and you get played by the political class. You play by the rules and it is about time they were made to do the same.
I used to give a small flying f**k about Illinois. No longer. That state outdoes even my old home state of Louisiana in it’s ability to dump their human refuse into our already polluted pollitical system.
Illinois, your only possible way out is to demand return of the Obamaloon and the rest of the clueless goons that you have fostered upon us.
Put them in jail. Waterboard them. Do rude things to them. Just make them go away.
Sad thing is, the Illinois GOP is in such sad disarray after the George Ryan years that Pat Quinn and the Dems can say whatever they damn well please and know they will be re-elected.
Dems know their people are crooked, but that’s okay to them.
“Dems know their people are crooked, but thats okay to them.”
That’s more than OK in IL, that’s extra points!
Even before George Ryan, the Illinois Republican party (while relatively clean) was largely moderate or RINO. (And I am one who does not rush to use the RINO term as easily as many others on this forum).
Quinn will not win re-election, but then again the taxes will not be rolled back. As a (very) small business owner in suburban Cook County, I have to tell you that this is one of the worst places to do business in the U.S.
Just rename Illinois as “SW Michigan.”
"I have to tell you that this is one of the worst places to do business in the U.S."
Amazing. We have signs on I-80/I-94 about bringing your business to Indiana. When Jesse Jackson held that protest at the firearms manufacturer in Chicago I suggested that company pack up and move to Indiana.
*People's Republic of Illinois.
Whoops. Zig instead of zag.
