Scientists consider geo-engineering

British scientists say they are looking for ways to reduce global temperatures and curb greenhouse emissions through geo-engineering.

Researchers are looking into the feasibility of using artificial trees to absorb carbon dioxide or reflect sunlight away from Earth, the Times of London reported Sunday. The Royal Society, Britain's national academy of science, is preparing a report on the subject, the newspaper said.

More idiocy for the government to throw money at.

Real trees will work just fine — so long as you sequester the wood when you cut the trees down so the carbon doesn’t re-enter the environment. Fail to do that and you’re just running a shell game.

A far better use of their time, money and talent would be to research ways to prevent or reverse an ice age.

You mean you can’t even compost the tree?

Gosh, all those tree hugging quacks better be punished for their stupid compost piles then, eh?

An estimated $2.5 trillion will be spent in a attempt to curb CO2 emissions, despite overwhelming evidence that the sun is the cause of warming, and CO2 merely a symptom.

Unfortunately, that won't work. As far as the "greehnouse effect" is concerned, the amount of carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere is already asymptotically close to the point where adding more has no additional warming effect. Not that carbon dioxide's contribution is all that significant to begin with.

CO2? Who cares about that?

Pave the planet in black asphalt, burn fuel everywhere for everything. Then burn some more. Double the world population. Then double it again.

THat’ll raise up the temps a couple notches.

Artificial trees? Maybe there’s something to those cell phone towers that are decorated to look like trees.

Embarrassing. It works like this - first you have a descriptive model, then if it's close enough, a predictive model, and only then and only if that is good enough, do you have a normative model, one that will tell you that adjusting A will affect B the way you want it to.

Global warming is barely an amusing descriptive model. It fails utterly at being a predictive model. To attempt to use it as a normative model is hubris beyond belief and any honest scientist knows it.

When I was in England a few years back I noticed that they had signs at their road construction sites saying “This Scheme is brought to you by....”.

I found it funny they called it a “Scheme”.

I see a typo, it is EGO-engineering.

When are we going to grow crops in Greenland?

About 40 years ago the Soviets were talking about putting giant mirrors in space to light Siberia at night for heat and crop growth. But I guess they are putting those plans on hold since global warming is making Siberia such an agricultural cornucopia.

What about Labrador - when can we start growing cotton?

What a joke.
