Son of Romney v. Reid
Newsreview.com ^ | 03.05.09 | Dennis Myers

Posted on 03/15/2009 7:46:17 AM PDT by BarnacleCenturion

Online columnist Sally Denton (a Nevada native and author of a book on Nevada politics): “Rumors swirl in Las Vegas that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is in the process of establishing residency in Nevada with his eye toward unseating his fellow Mormon.”

David Bernstein in the Boston Phoenix in Romney’s home state: “Mitt vs. Harry Reid? If you’re looking to sell a palatial estate in Nevada, I think I might know somebody who’ll be looking to buy soon. … Hint: Mormonism is an asset in Nevada. (Reid is Mormon, in fact.) Romney, you might recall, campaigned hard in Nevada and won the caucuses there, helping to blunt his loss in South Carolina. The genius of running against Reid is that, win or lose, Romney becomes a hero to the GOP just for taking it on. I think he’s planning to do it. Of course, he doesn’t actually live there, but that’s easily fixed.”

He is a dream candidate for Nevada! (Money, experience, good looks, Mormon, great family) I hope he really follows through and does this.

Uncle Harry has got to go!!!!!!!

Who knew Reid was a Mormon. I've certainly never heard that before, and by his lying “Tommy” BS I have to wonder if he just calls himself a Mormon, for political gain?

Unseating another Dim Senate Majority Leader would instill a very nice, warm fuzzy feeling in me. Especially with a guy like Romney.

Tom Daschle...Dingy Harry... Adios, chumps. :)

I’ve known Harry was a Mormon for some time. Accordingly, on some social issues, he’s a moderate. For instance, he’s voted against partial-birth abortion and believes abortion should only be legal when the life or health of a woman is at risk. He’s also a bit more shaky on the definition of marriage than the Rats would like him to be.

OK, while I’d never support him for President, bumping off Harry Reid in Nevada would be a great thing.

Beating him in an election would also be nice.

Romney vs. Reid...best news Ive heard so far today! Republicans need to run young attractive candidates with true and real conservative values, principles, intelligence, and executive experience to run against every single democrat in the midterm elections. And the important thing is they are out there waiting to be asked or making up their minds to do it as they see the disastrous cliff and slippery slope our country is heading toward.

My Nevada 2¢:

1) To my recollection, Nevada has rejected carpetbaggers--a governorship run by a California film maker (his name slips my mind) and Jack Carter, Jimmy's...son? Some relation to Jimmy Carter.

2) There may be no native Nevadan to challenge Reid short of John Ensign, who ran against Reid once and lost by a handful of votes. I think Ensign could win this time, but he's made no noise about running against Prince Harry.

3) With (2) above in mind, having Romney run against Prince Harry would be a good thing, although he needs to get busy. Harry has already started campaigning (yes, 2 years before the election).

4) I would hope that Mitt moves to northern Nevada (i.e. Reno) to give Las Vegas the finger, but I think he would be more effective fighting the beast on his own territory. The North/South Nevada battle always hinges on population, and Vegas has an edge over Reno and all the cow counties, so splitting Clark county (Las Vegas) would be a good political move. Plus the buffets are a little better in Vegas...;^)

I always disliked carpet bagging politicians, like Robert Kennedy, Bill Weld, and Mitt, son of Michigan ..er..Utah..er Massachusetts..er..Nevada?

It kind of says, that the talking body, the hot air palace they wish to join, is more important than the people they left behind. That they don’t truly represent those people, that district, but a ‘higher purpose’ of the idea of people, in general. We have enough of that abstraction all ready throughout our society and politics.

In Mitts case, his politics have always been movable, he himself has been physically moveable. I’m told he’s a conservative, today.

On another view, Harry Reid isn’t that effective of a leader, he is a good lighting rod, is ugly. Personally, I’d keep him in office. Who ever replace him, has a more than 50/50 chance of being better looking, younger, and more effective. This is kind of why the Democrats like Fat Dennis ‘Coach’ Hasteret. He was harmless to them, and delivered more money and spending and corrupted the GOP, so why stop him? And, they didn’t.

What does that have to do with Mitt?

I hope he takes some polls first. He might be viewed as a capret bagger and that could cause problems (not that Dem’s cant get away with it). If he is the strongest candidate then go for it.

There may be no native Nevadan to challenge Reid short of John Ensign,

John Ensign is already a Nevada US senator (the conservative one who seldom gets noticed).

I think you probably mean Jon Porter, the former US House member who lost his seat last year to the flaming lib Dina Titus. He MAY beat Reid for the Senate seat. If he doesn't run, though, I don't know of any "big-name" Nevadans that may challenge Reid.

Yet...

Well I look at it this way. You walk out side for a fair fight and the other guy kicks you in the jewels. Well the other guy has set the rules. Now it is time to gouge their eyes out. Hell yes Mitt. Run in Nevada. Hillary did it. Time to kick some liberal Butt.

I don’t think this is true at all. Romney just bought a home in La Jolla, California. At least one of his sons lives nearby.

Republicans need to get their act together. This is a Senate Seat that is very vulnerable. Like the election in NY 20th District, we have to find a conservative candidate from state republican party who is well known. Mitt Romney will be a great candidate. By doing so, Mitt will gain respect among every republican.
