You are comparing Dan Rather to the Office of the Presidency.

When it comes to forging a document, the resources of CBS News are essentially unlimited. We're not talking about a document that has to fool one or two people, who are merely trained. We're talking about a document that has to pass inspection of every expert in the world who cares to look. The Clintons did this with the famous torn note, with all those resources you seem to think they had, and what they produced was a "poor forgery" in the words of a handwriting expert quoted by the London Times. (Unfortunately, our own newspapers were not quite so interested.)

I’m sure he has done his best to clean things up as best he can. I don’t think he would just sit there and cross his fingers depending upon the courts to shield him. He’s acted to protect himself against the contingency that would force him to reveal things that he doesn’t want to reveal.
