How many people saw that sign he is standing behind and took it to read “Making America Operate Better” instead of “Making America get off the couch and take care of people who won’t get off the couch”?
Silence is strange indeed. I get that same uneasy feeling that I can’t quite detect either. I mentioned it upthread when people were looking to McCain (I know... McCain, but still!) for a leader and instead he said Obama would make a fine president.
Not to mention NO ONE IS SAYING ANYTHING.
I’m going to be honest here, the silence has reaffirmed my belief in end days. That so many can seem so “koolaid” driven for lack of better cliche is startling.

I mentioned upthread about my friend, who concedes I could probably very well be right about my assumptions with Obama, that I will put myself in danger. I didn’t quite understand what she meant. I said “Thank God there were people 200 odd years ago willing to put themselves in danger”. The expression on her face told me she understood, but this is from a friend who is a self described anarchist! I guess it’s as long as it’s a protect from myself anarchy.
I listened to the first 35 minutes of what sounds like Chapter 2 of “The Give Act.”
It looks like the Senator John McCain “may help push it through,” as Hatch mentions in the hearing on the video.” DISGUSTING. Words escape me. I bet they haven’t read the Bill. Who do they think they are to dress this up and say it is all about “What you can do for your country...” crap.
The audacity is they feel in their words it is the Government’s job to “encourage our citizens to devote significant time to volunteer.”
Volunteering is a virtue we have inside all of us. I don’t need the Government to empower me to volunteer. Right?
They are kidding themselves if they think this is not creating another level of Government just to create volunteer opportunities. Hatch said, “with modest amount of Federal money.” What?

I can’t tell if this is the Senate coming together to rally support for HR 1388 or if there is another piece of spending legislation coming afterwards. A Chapter 2 or not.

Yeah, anyone else doubt this economic “crisis” wasn’t manufactured? Not that it doesn’t exist, it does. But who put it in motion?
I have been studying the Resistance Movement in WWII. I am learning a lot. Were it not for the resistance movement, the two soldiers who escaped from Auschwitz would not have made it to (can’t remember where) and told of the deaths going on that no one knew about. Even then it was several months before the Allies struck. But the Resistance moved the 2 jews through the countryside.
ABSOLUTELY! Let’s not be the British and expect a neat little war with neat little lines with neat little rules.

This is basically a “draft for volunteer service” that will FORCE people to work. You think most of the “food stamp / welfare moms” are going to want to work when they have been sitting on their fat butts for years?
Come on, he promised them a full gas tank and a free house. If he or the dims expect their base to have to work for anything, their ratings will sink faster than a lead balloon.
You assume it will be them volunteering. As always the rules will be for the ones who are apt to follow the rules. Same concept with gun control.
“Language to designate 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance (has been included as an important provision)” Well how thoughtful. If it was so important then why not propose it stand by itself? Profit on tragedy!
You don’t have a problem with forcing people to volunteer? It’s not longer volunteering- it’s servitude to the state- aka socialism.
This is the problem with socialism to begin with...it all sounds so harmless, sometimes even noble. The problem is the way in which it erodes liberty and freedom. All the rights and responsibilities of the INDIVIDUAL are now in the hands of the collective/state.
