DNC Targets Sanford in New Ad [Mark Sanford]
MSNBC - First Read ^ | 2009-03-13

In its first TV ad since Barack Obama became president, the Democratic National Committee is highlighting South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's (R) opposition to millions in stimulus funds for his state.

"South Carolina is facing tough times," the ad goes, "but Gov. Sanford is playing politics instead of doing what’s right. Turning down millions in recovery act funds, putting politics ahead of health care, jobs and schools."

A source says the ad will run for at least a week on cable in South Carolina.

In my opinion he is the best fit to run for President in 2012 and win based on his record, character, charisma, and executive experience.

I agree. Except I wish he had a bit more charisma.

If the primary was tomorrow I'd vote for Sanford.

Good point. Sanford hit a nerve. The dems don’t want a real debate on the contents of their pork-laden/big-government welfare action that they’ve labeled stimulus. It’s already becoming obvious that this thing is a major failure. Stimulus 1 doesn’t stimulate the economy, so they’re starting to talk about stimulus 2.

They’re simply raising his stature. Once the “stimulus” ruins the economy through inflation and unemployment Sanford’s stance will look all the better.

There is nothing like leadership and people recognize it when they see it.

Sanford will have to endure worse bloodying than this if you think Cook County and her masters will release the Presidency easily.

The enemy reads these threads as well. They know danger when they see it.

Obama is an amateur. Sanford already looks Presidential by action, not just words and a media front a la Obama.

It simply raises Sanfords stature. Just like they did to Rush.

Sanford and his team will get plenty of media response time. Any PR is good PR at this stage. It gives him plenty of free name recognition which is critical nationally.

His VP pick will have the charisma. He’ll also have been a governor and businessman. The pick will make the Left go nuts and some here on FR.

Regardless of who we support in 2012, we need to make sure the South Carolina Governorship stays in GOP hands in 2010. The Dems will attempt to make SC a national example of GOP corruption and incompetence just like they did to OH. Expect the media to run stories about racist conservatives flying the Confederate flag, corrupt GOP lawmakers, and SC’s 9% jobless rate. The media aided by the Messiah will say Republicans use wedge issues like school prayer and gay marriage to con rural whites to vote against their economic self-interests. Expect these talking points to hit the news channels next year.

In my mind, Sanford is the perfect person to influence the debate for the philisophical soul of the conservative movement. As a potential candidate for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, it is my opinion that he does not have the persona to generate electoral success. Unfortunately in today's enviroment, charisma counts for than do ideas. If Obama appears unbeatable in 2012, he might become the GOP sacrifical lamb candidate.
