JERUSALEM - An Israeli politician who based his election campaign on baiting the country's Arab minority, drawing accusations that he is racist demagogue, now seems likely to become the Jewish state's top diplomat.
U.S., European and moderate Arab officials have maintained public silence on the issue of Avigdor Lieberman's ascent, but privately acknowledge serious concern.
An emerging coalition deal expected to be wrapped up in the coming days would anoint Lieberman foreign minister at a time when Israel's international image is suffering from its bloody war in Gaza and last month's election of a hawkish government likely to be at odds with would-be Mideast peacemakers.
Lieberman, a 50-year-old immigrant from the former Soviet Union, has said Palestinian prisoners should be drowned in the Dead Sea, that Israeli-Arab lawmakers who meet Palestinian militants should be executed and that the president of Egypt could "go to hell."

Is even possible for me to hate the MSM any more than I do now?
Israel needs someone at this time in history that will in fact push back. I see Arab and Socialists as the most vociferous of the complainants against Israel, and their noise as World opinion.
Screw World opinion when it’s directed by the enemies of Sovereignty.
In other news: Finland's international image is suffering from its bloody war against the Soviet Union.
"Israel's international image is suffering..."
Nope, none at all, just the MSM trying to have a floater and not a sinker...
Can’t be any worse than what I say about the “magic negro”.

I don't think Lieberman is preaching racism. He is talking about self-preservation. Political Correctness is irrelevant to a nation that has been under fire every day for more than 60 years.

Now that is something that makes sense to me and I couldn't agree more.

There's nothing racist about expecting a citizen to demonstrate loyalty to his country. Only in the most general, non-political terms, as is not supporting nor working toward the violent overthrow of the government and slaughter of 80% of the population.
The Western leftists and many Israeli Arabs are sick with the same malaise. They both, actively or passively, support forces that would remove their liberty and the rights they take for granted.
In the case of Israeli Arabs, hypocrisy is overwhelming. Same people vehemently oppose Avigdor Lieberman’s proposal of the population and territory exchange because they don’t want to be ruled (very understandably) by the PA or Hamas thugs AND support, demonstrate and agitate in favor of the Hamas and PA thugs. Only pathology of the Western media can let that malaise continue unexposed, and instead criticize Lieberman who is forcing the moment of truth.
Nothing to prevent them from moving. That's what everyone will expect from Jews in the West Bank. Personally, I don't think the US should support any agreement requiring depopulation. If Jews in the West Bank want to stay there under palestinian rule, there were a few in Gaza, that should be permitted, and we should demand the government protect them and their rights. America shouldn't be advocating apartheid.
The clues: It is written by AP, appears on the ABC web site, and closes by quoting Eric Yoffie (of all people) bashing Avigdor Lieberman in a vile fashion and attributing Yoffie's views to "many American Jews." Tellingly, there are no quotes from American Jews supporting Lieberman. Not exactly "fair and balanced."
Eric Yoffe can move there, then he get’s to vote. As can “many American Jews”. Till then, it’s appropriate to watch and display concern from a distance.
The ‘US Lobby’ is trying to control Israeli policy.
ABC considers Nationalism a bad thing. I consider it the only attitude one should have toward their country. Otherwisw get out.
U.S., European and moderate Arab officials...there are no "moderate Arab officials".
Here’s a way to count Israeli votes. Each ONE, to put a minister into government, requires 28,000 people. Lieberman’s party got 15 (or 16) seats. So, it’s 28,000 times 15. A little under half a million voters, in Israel, specifically voted for Lieberman’s party. And, he heads the list. Netanyahu has to offer him a “goodie.”
And, I love the idea that he will be foreign minister! Heck, he speaks russian. And, the russians are running wild. He will be far better, here, than Hillary clinton. Whose russian gift was a button that said “over-charge.”
