Steele begins naming his team (Don't unpack the bags just yet)
Washington Times ^ | 3/12/2009 | Ralph Z. Hallow

In an attempt to deflect attention from growing problems with conservatives in his party, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele has begun naming top aides two weeks ahead of schedule.

Mr. Steele on Thursday named Ken McKay his chief of staff, the start of a plan to spread over several days the revelation of his choices: technology chief on Friday, communications director on Monday, finance head on Tuesday and other key positions later.

To the consternation of many Steele supporters and critics alike, the vital department-head positions have gone unfilled since the charismatic former Maryland lieutenant governor won election on Jan. 30 as chairman of the 168-member RNC. He defeated four rivals in a five-way election that was not decided until the sixth round of balloting.

Not me, I was concerned right off the bat after his first comments.

Then I did a vanity here and learned a lot.

Yep, he’s a “pro-choice” RINO. Time to fire him or fire the RNC.

Yahoo News
“Steele ‘choice’ gaffe sparks GOP revolt

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele’s series of gaffes turned into something more serious Thursday, as leaders of a pillar of the GOP—the anti-abortion movement—shifted into open revolt over comments in an interview with the men’s magazine GQ.

Steele called abortion an “individual choice” and opposed a constitutional ban on abortion in the Feb. 24 interview, which appeared online Wednesday night.”

"I liked Steele, but he has been a disaster.

To me he now appears to be a financial disaster for me.

I wish I had kept copies of all the checks for campaign contributions. Maybe I could ask for a refund.

Hip-Hop GOP

Rush is just another entertainer

and now this, abortion is an individual choice.

I do pray for America and I don't think Steele is the right person for the RNC job.

“Why do we have to kill every Repub? Let us know when we find the “perfect” conservative and we will rally around them until....”

because those RINO repubs killed themselves in 2006 and 2008.

I think most posters on free republic operate like the Dixie Chicks.

Dixie Chick Martie Maguire was quoted as saying, “I’d rather have a smaller following of really cool people who get it.”

Or as it applies here “I’d rather have a smaller following of really cool conservatives than a bunch of rinos in a big tent”

How bout we give him a chance?

I gave him a chance. He won't follow the party platform. He should resign or we should found a third party.

“He said abortion is a choice??” Uh.. Yes. In 50 states even. Steele said women have a right to choose an abortion. So what? Newsflash: they do currently have that right. Hence the “choose life” slogan that those of us who are pro-lifers love to slap on t-shirts, posters, and bumper stickers. Saying that women have an “individual choice” about abortion is nothing more than a statement of fact, not an indication that someone is pro-abortion. If you get pregnant, you currently have the right to get an abortion in all 50 states. So right now, it is a choice. I am rabidly pro-life and I certainly agree that’s the case.

Steele: You go and you say, [pounding desk] “You will find tools that you will put in place, structures that will allow and embrace more diverse people to come to the party.” But this is the thing to keep in mind: Opening up the party, and making it more accessible, and making it more relevant, does not mean that I need to backslide on what I believe or what values we hold. We are a party; we are the conservative party of this country. We are a party that values life, born and unborn. We value hard work, individual rights, and liberties. We value the individual—to go out and carve out a dream for themselves. We value free-market and free-enterprise solutions. We value smaller government. We think the less government in your life, the better off you are as an individual and a family.

You can choose life, or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.

Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?

Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice.

You do?

Yeah. Absolutely.

Are you saying you don’t want to overturn Roe v. Wade?
I think Roe v. Wade—as a legal matter, Roe v. Wade was a wrongly decided matter.

Okay, but if you overturn Roe v. Wade, how do women have the choice you just said they should have?

The states should make that choice. That’s what the choice is. The individual choice rests in the states. Let them decide.

Do pro-choicers have a place in the Republican Party?

Absolutely!

Humpty reminded me of the first time I ever saw him in this scene from Nothing but trouble.

Actually a pretty good movie as stupid funny movies go. Dan Akroyd has two starring roles as does John Candy. Chevy Chase and Demi moore are also stars in the movie.

The Ditzy Chicks said that only to be popular among the anti-war crowd. Hardly a minority in the DNC or courageous. It would be like a Repub getting up and saying he supports the troops.

Imagine the racist comments after Steele is thrown out?

Pray for America, Our Troops and obama’s Guidance
