Senator John Kerry stressed that the economy cannot be a scapegoat for not implementing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas reductions. He went so far as to call doing nothing a suicide pact.
Forget cost and forget the recession, says Kerry:
Climate change is not governed by a recession, its governed by scientific facts about whats happening to Earth. And you either accept the realities of the science or you dont. You dont enter a mutual suicide pact because the economy is having a hard time right now.
Senator Kerry has one thing right; it should be governed by scientific facts. But according to renowned scientists and climatologists from around the world, the debates not over. (See here, here, here and here.)
Global Warming Sells, But Whos Really Buying?
Global warming policy can sound pretty good one sound byte at a time. But as Americans learn more, they are buying it a lot less. That is because Americans are beginning to understand that a cap-and-trade program to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is nothing more than a regressive tax that will raise energy prices and cost Americans jobs all for little, if any, environmental gain. A cap-and-trade is a less predictable version of a carbon tax and there is plenty of reason and hope Americans wont stand for an expensive energy tax, especially in a recessionary environment.
It is shaping up that if Congress passes any version of a cap-and-trade bill, just like the stimulus spending, it will come with large public dissent. In fact, a recent Gallup pole announced that
Although a majority of Americans believe the seriousness of global warming is either correctly portrayed in the news or underestimated, a record-high 41% now say it is exaggerated. This is up from just 30% in 2006.
And maybe that is why we are starting to see a ramp up in the rhetoric from the global warming alarmists. The numbers dont lie; support for global warming policies are eroding, faster than polar ice caps, as it turns out.
So how will the public react if the government signs into law a stringent cap-and-trade scheme to reduce carbon? Rajendra Pachauris, head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), answer to that question is revolution:
He [Obama] is not going to say by 2020 Im going to reduce emissions by 30 per cent. Hell have a revolution on his hands. He has to do it step by step.
The Reagan Revolution rose out of American discontent with an out of touch government. History might once again be repeating itself.

It’s all about a power-grab by elitists who will claim that the “crisis” mandates us surrendering our freedoms and letting them take more control.
John, you haven’t had a passing relationship with anything scientific since Nixon sent you to Cambodia in 68
Whether you ‘buy it’ or not, it(cap n trade) will be imposed upon you.
Last I heard there was 26,000+ scientist who signed a petition stating this was all hogwash.
I suppose their opinion doesn’t count.
It’s a well kept secret that Bush and Cheney invented carbon dioxide. It’s true! Until 2002 there was no such gas, but in that year the Bushcheneyhitlerburton Corporation created it in a lab for the first time and then arranged to have it pumped into the atmosphere to warm the planet for the benefit of voters in Palm Beach, Orange County, and Massachusetts. It’s true! Look it up.
I trust Vaclav Klaus’ opinion on what’s really up with Globull Warming.
Follow the money and see who profits from Cap and Trade. It’s always about the money.
That’s the way it is with the left.
They “know better” and tend not to pay much attention to “the masses”.
Their worldview is that those in power are far more intellectually and morally than the masses, and therefore have the DUTY to make choices for them in their best interest.

What might be our ultimate savior from the global warming cult is the bad economy. Even in Congress there is a reluctance to impose draconian measures to combat this "global warming" when the economy is already in the tank.
Incoming Global Warming Czar Carol Browner was until last week listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group that advocates what’s called “global governance” and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change. The Washington Times reports Browner’s name and biography were listed on the Web page for Socialist International. (Fox News Special Report)
It appears a real possibility that global warming is the new home for socialism/communism.
Environmentalism, says Czech President Vaclav Klaus, is the new communism, a system of elite command-and-control that kills prosperity and should similarly be condemned to the ash heap of history. (Washington Times)
It is increasingly apparent that global warming adherents will resort to any means necessary to make the masses conform, but not themselves (Al Gores jets, mansions, food consumption, etc. as an example)
The Obama administration will tackle the threat of global warming by seeking a cap-and-trade system to cut greenhouse gas emissions, Steven Chu, President-elect Barack Obama’s pick to be U.S. energy secretary, told lawmakers on Tuesday.
Despite record cold weather and a growing number of scientists that find global warming fears unfounded, we are barreling down this path. Three of Obamas picks for top positions have promised such. Chu is radically committed to this religious belief. Chu, like Jimmy Carter thinks you can reduce consumption of oil enough to not depend on foreign sources. So, no drilling if he can help it.
If these people were serious about meeting energy needs they would be promoting nuclear. Instead they are pushing solar and wind in their eutopian socialist dream.
34,000 including me.
I sure hope so, but zer0bama and the dems have plagiarized a fictional economic plan, and 51% of voters are too stupid to ask questions that the media won't. This is beyond belief.
The John Galt Plan, Wesley Mouch was saying, will reconcile all conflicts. It will protect the property of the rich and give a greater share to the poor. It will cut down the burden of your taxes and provide you with more government benefits. It will lower prices and raise wages. It will give more freedom to the individual and strengthen the bonds of collective obligations. It will combine the efficiency of free enterprise with the generosity of a planned economy. Insurance guys are promoting carbon trading for ranchers...it seems ranch land can offset carbon whatever. i always taught my children that you don’t get something for nothing. Not anymore.Follow the money and you’ll see the energy “green” leaches getting loaded off this kind of law. Ranchers may get a pittance but the middle guys are raking it in. Another racket supported by the government and just trading paper. Also, another racket to fall one day.
Washington is a greed driven, power hungry, decadent Imperial City same as Rome was before it fell. I despise John Kerry and others like him who think they are our overlords
Kerry and his ilk could care less if cap and trade etc bankrupt the commoners
They WILL ramrod Cap & Trade through, without a second thought. We will be forced to take this country back from the children now trying to run it.
