U.N. Secretary-General Calls U.S. a ‘Deadbeat’ Donor, Sparking Republican Complaints Thursday, March 12, 2009 By Susan Jones, Senior Editor

(CNSNews.com) – The United States gives more financial support to the United Nations than any other country, but on Wednesday, in a closed-door meeting with the House Foreign Relations Committee, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called the U.S. “the biggest deadbeat” donor.

The U.S. still owes around $1 billion to the world body, Ban told lawmakers. “We cannot do the work you ask us to do without the resources to get the job done,” the U.N. quoted him as telling the House committee.

One Republican at the meeting called Ban’s comments “beyond belief.”

“Last year, American taxpayers ponied up nearly $5 billion for the UN system,” said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) “The U.S. is by far the world's largest donor to the UN. The U.S. provides other assistance for peacekeeping operations. The U.S. responds to emergency appeals. We are always on deck.

"Yet, the head of the UN comes to Congress and scolds us for not doing enough? He demands yet more money from us while making little progress in cleaning up the badly-broken UN?

"The UN's ineffectiveness is not from a lack of cash, but the result of a corrupt system which wastes money and apologizes for dictatorships,” Ros-Lehtinen said.

The UN is a deadbeat which tolerates terrorism, slavery,
and encourages the use of children as sex slaves by its
own personel.
.
It should be shut down.

OMG, who was first on the scene during the tsunami, and every other world disaster?????

Unbelievable (and I had to edit my post several times to avoid being deleted).

Kick the UN out. They’re taking up valuable real estate.

And kudos to that Rep congressperson!

Move the UN Hqtrs. to Haiti, labor’s cheaper there, and Fla. is nearby.

Waaah. Right On. They want ALL of our money and then go out and support countries that want to destroy us; meanwhile the UN is completely hostile to Israel, our friend. The UN can go to hell - it’s already a pawn of Satan anyway.

Any sane politician would tell them “thank you very much, now pack your bags and get the hell out”. Obama will be giving them their billion within a month. He's going to need them when our troops won't fire on our citizens.

What would happen if the UN became bankrupt? World peace? World market turn around? Nothing? Is there a downside?

While a scary thought, there is no one more I want having my back against any other, is our military.

An eviction notice would be very appropriate...

That way we could demolish the property and turn it into a parking lot...

Even better, I would concede giving the land to promote a “Greenspace” park...

Wow. Maybe they should give up their free giant building in Manhatten (NY, NY, USA) and find some other place from which to blather on about how horrible country the U.S. is.

Still bitter over the blown “Oil-For-Food” scam. It was the US that uncovered it.

But, with Bush gone, Obama will apologize and have a check in the mail today. He will be needing their help when the Civil War breaks out.

I would give him kudos if he had the nerve to say what he said in the close door meeting to the U.N. Leaders Face.
