I lived there for thirty-seven years, and I'm not surprised to read this. But remember, under WA law, opposite sex couples over 62 can be considered domestic partners as well. That means this is not 100% about homosexuality.
Having been here for decades myself - and testified in favor of that DOMA years ago, I believe it’s all about moving toward same-sex marriage.
