The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.
The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.
"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."
Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

Well I think that sucks, lol. You’d encourage your kid to give away her child, your grandchild. Of course, it would be the most selfless thing to do. But really, you’d encourage your kid to give away your family when you’re trying to adopt? Makes no sense to me. Hey, if your kid had a kid, you wouldn’t have to adopt, you could just raise your grandchild. But that wouldn’t fit with the agenda.
Heh. Good reply.
Then there are those of us, like for decades, that don’t consider the government as a solution. And we don’t rely on them. It’s even considered tacky to take anything from the government.
So it’s Palin’s fault her kid is in the spotlight? Is it because she’s a woman since most of male politicians don’t have this crap surrounding them?
Oh wait, I forgot. You don’t dislike Palin, you just dislike this whole sex thing happening in today’s world. Got it now. RME.
Or we should preach adoption if the father/male isn’t present, like you considered until the father was on board?
What about the other children of teen mothers? Maybe we should look at those stats you mentioned and focus on those. So which demographic has the highest rate of teen pregnancy and no fathers around. I’d say it was the black community, but we’re not allowed to point that out. Teen pregnancy isn’t that big a deal in our area, but then again our area is a white affluent area. You know, those horrible working white people. Those people who take care of their own without government help. Oooh but we can’t say that here.
Or how about the high rate of hispanic teen unwed pregnancies? Again, something we can’t address.
Don’t want to be called racist. RME.
I wonder sometimes where some of you people live. Having been born and raised in the city, inner city, and moved on up to the burbs, some of you talk like you live in the ghetto. And some others talk like they think they know what the ghetto was actually like but really have no clue.
Maybe I’m just lucky and live in a great area with a wonderful public high school and good puplic grade school and good Catholic grade school. Not perfect for sure, but not what some of you post nonstop. I really think some of you live in the slums with all the negative crap you all post.
blacks, whites, hispanics...who cares? It’s just as hard to tell a black girl to give up her baby for adoption as it is for a white girl even if you know it will be the best thing for both the baby and the mother. But sometimes it is more important to do what’s right than what’s easy.
Oh please. Conservatives already do this. We raise our kids.
Conservatives don’t need to change any culture. They didn’t need to do it in the so “horrible 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s”
All this whining about how the culture has changed is just whining.
Oh please. No teen girl is listening to Bristol Palin any more than they are listening to freakin Paris Hilton, oh wait, Rhihanna and her abusive relationship. They sure as hell ain’t listening to Sarah Palin any more than they are listening to their parents.
We have to stop blaming this stuff on TV,movies, video games, internet. Parents have to raise their kids.
A father is important but seriously some of you and this post make it seem like this is rocket science when it’s really common sense.
And, there are tons of spoiled kids in two parent families. That’s just ridiculous. A silly statement imo.
I’m sure some on here would consider me an unfit parent because I don’t wrap my kids in bubble wrap. I allow them to watch tv and movies and listen to music, oh the horrors. I allow them to attend school.
Not all of us are teaching our kids to hide from the world. And surprise, we’re still raising conservative kids. Or at least as conservative as possible.
We can judge this family all we want, and it may make some feel better about their own mistakes and loser lives, but it won’t change their loser lives. JMO
Thanks. Now I see where you’re coming from. I don’t do the PC crap. You choose to do the PC thing. I don’t.
Um, there is a difference, something we’re not supposed to comment on or discuss.
You obviously don’t see the difference as dictated the last 40 years. I do. There’s a difference in culture, be it White European, Asian, African, Arabic, and so on.
And sometimes it’s right to point out differences regardless of how uncomfortable they are or make one feel.
Pinging wardaddy because of interest in history.
And it’s never right to tell someone to give up their child.
There exist various subsets of Republicans. Some are pleasant and sane, some should aspire to be.
I’m sorta iffy on Palin but most of the posts here are pushing me towards liking her more. I like her, don’t get me wrong, but posts here are so goofy, I like her even more.
“Conservatives dont need to change any culture. They didnt need to do it in the so horrible 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s”
America has changed. Welcome to the Obama generation. If we don’t change the culture then the liberals will gladly take advantage of the opportunity in the schools, media, internet, etc.
Nobody is talking about sheltering anyone. That’s the whole point! Kids will know all about Bristol because it’s all over the news and conservatives will have to know how to address that issue since it will be brought up. Maybe some freepers can think they can sweep this story under the rug but you know the media won’t let that happen. :/
I’m doing the PC crap? now that’s ironic...
Interesting post, lol. The sick kid is finally dozing off so I’ll be joining her.
The extemism is freaky, imo.
You were supposed to take it tongue in cheek. I suck at this stuff.
it’s very late for me. :}
Yep.
It has changed. Not all that much, though. It’s just more difficult now.
I figured we were on the same page. But not sure.
The libs already own the schools and media. We need to fight that, imo.
And going by my kids, the whole Bristol Palin saga is nonexistent to them.
We need to have a voice, along side the liberal voice, in the schools and media.
I honestly don’t see a problem with our culture. It’s not all that different than what it was back in the 50s 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s.
I do see a problem with how we’re getting out message out there. We’re not doing a good job.
The media won’t let this story die, that I do see. The last 6 or 7 months some have focused on Bristol’s pregnancy and it’s not only the left. We have republicans, conservatives, focusing on this too. Slamming this kid and her mother. I don’t get that.
Me too. Plus, a sick kid I’m up with. I think I should get special treatment just for that ;)
I’m going to be a bit cranky tomorrow, or today.
I’m going to bed now. Tomorrow should be really pleasant. I’ll be cranky.
Me too ;)
