The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.
The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.
"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."
Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

BECAUSE its my blood it especially deserves a committed, married mother and father. If my children can’t provide that, I care enough that somebody do so.
Do you live in Alaska? Governor Palin is no longer a national candidate, so your prurient interest in her daughter is nothing but the pursuit of a gossip monger.
Governor Palin had every right to expect that the media and people like you would leave her daughter out of national politics.
I am tired. Bed time. I will reply tomorrow.

While I agree with you on people interfering with your right to enjoy a cigar, our modern society doesn't meddle enough--in the right areas. Everything is backwards. Good is bad and bad is good. Case in point--we've had an epidemic of affairs and subsequent divorces around town. I watch people "turn their heads" so as not to be "judgmental" towards the "new" relationships. I made up my mind that I wasn't going to pretend nothing happened. My family was affected by two of the incidences, and I told all involved exactly what I thought about it.
You're flat-out sick, and your understanding of a mothers' love is less than that held by animals.
And it's so easy to do, too! Just get State force to rip the baby from her mother's arms and give it to some others you have decided, with your superior mind, would be better for "it."
I’m thinking the poor, illegitimate child will be just fine.
Interesting post. Well said.
Thank you for posting that.
You're incredible! Leave the cigar alone but seize the baby from it's loving mother's arms - because "Everything is backwards. Good is bad and bad is good."
You're a shill. No one is as genuinely screwed up as you are presuming to be. All you want to do is inflame the debate - and let's see, whom would that benefit?
Enquiring minds want to know.
If you could trouble yourself to read ALL the posts in a thread before jumping in the middle, you would save yourself considerable embarassment and the swift exposure of your lazy straw men.
No one has advocated the use of the state; we’re discussing the issue entirely in the context of the non-state enforcement of social norms.
But lazy insults and bashing helpless straw men are both so much easier, aren’t they?
You gotta be kidding me! No one has the right, for whatever reason (infertile couple, a couple wanting to adopt), to another couple’s child. Not ever.
“If a mother truly loves her child, the decision to give the baby up for adoption to an intact family is the most selfless act she can do.”
An intact family? So what if the so called “intact” couple divorces and it’s no longer an “intact” family? Do they give the baby/child back?
If both the mother and father choose to give their baby up for adoption for whatever reason, more power to them. It’s their decision. It certainly doesn’t make their decision the most selfless act.
Fourteen posts to the the first conservative. THANK YOU.
It always amazes me to see where Church Ladies lurk in the hearts of men and women.
It doesn’t really matter what liberals or anyone else wants. Fathers are important, just as important as mothers. Families are important. It’s a sad day when conservatives advocate adopting out kids to so called two parent homes completely negating what family is all about.
No one has that kind of influence on anyone unless they are allowed to have that influence. There are weak people everywhere, even on this site, even so called conservatives.
Sorry...just reading thru this thread and just had to ditto your ditto on that!
What about all those babies given up for adoption to intact families who later divorce? Should they give those children back?
I sure hope it never happens but it would be a cold day in hell that any of my kids or extended family ever gave their babies to strangers.
Fundamentally, wrong. It is the sign of a government usurping compassion from free human beings, the taxpayers, aka "the people."
It goes so far as to force taxpayers to pay for something many find beyond repugnant and immoral -- being forced to support with their labor the practic of abortions.
Before things like SCHIF, etc., Christian charity had done a pretty good and progressively better job with a lot of it in prosperous, free Western societies for the past couple of centuries ... but I guess we can't have that, can we? Simply out of the question. Why, who's in charge? Who's the acting authority? Things are different now, though a pretty wise book tells us that "there's nothing new under the sun."
A "compassionate" government is a slave operation, and it ain't new.
Since when is a college education necessary for having a baby? Or being married? Although, I’m all for college educations, have a couple grad degrees myself, it’s certainly not necessary for having a baby or being married or being an adult.
Our society is in serious trouble but returning to the dark ages isn’t the answer, imo. Nor is considering a college education any kind of criteria.
