Report: Bristol Palin and Fiancé Split
TODAY ^ | 03.11.09 | STAFF

The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."

Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

So why is it mysterious to you that we haven’t crossed paths before?

I post and have posted nearly every day since joining. It would seem merely that our interests have not intersected before.

So you have in fact no specific indictment?

Throw me a bone here: I need to know how many lashes I must endure.

I may be wrong, but your frantic insults do nothing to make that clear to anyone.

True conservatives can in fact disagree with you.

You, believe it or not, are not the arbiter of conservatism.

Ok. Thanks. As you know, that makes me shudder also. I haven’t read all the posts yet just those mostly replying to mine and others as I read.

The whole adoption thing is freaky, imo. Families just don’t give away their family, no matter how or when they were conceived. However, we have a distant branch, one we’re not close with, and the mom is a druggie. Long story short, CPS took away her kid after the grandmother and an aunt couldn’t care for him. He had a great foster family and liked being there. Then his druggie mom decided she wanted him back. The Foster Family wanted to adopt him. A few years ago, my husband wanted us to take him in. I considered it. But decided it wasn’t best for our family considering the kid’s mother is a train wreck. And like I said, distant branch of the family. Just learned that the druggie mom has him back and sorta regret my decision. His foster family really loved him and he was doing so well there. And that branch really has no one. But do I take in an 11 yr old boy from a branch of the family I barely know?

We don’t give away our family, close or immediate family. My brothers kids had me as guardian legally if something should happen to their parents. I’m legal guardian for my nephews kids. My oldest daughter is now listed as as guardian for her sisters should something happen to us.

My one niece who was thrown out by her mom and now lives with her Dad, well she may be living with us soon. As long as they give up rights because I ain’t dealing with courts and goofy parents.

Families are messy at times. Life is messy.

There's nothing that can’t be done when you set your mind to it, and government intervention in this process isn’t helpful to society at all.

You are proof positive of everything good about this forum ~ your posts are so humbling.

Warmest best wishes to you and your daughter.

Yes, life is messy.

But family is everything.

Life is good.

You hug, hold and do your best.

Of course everyone does judge (but, shh, not like you know who) Family is important. Do all you can and if it does not work, you tried.

I was in grade school when JP2 came to Philly in the late 70s. Also saw him at the Meadowlands later as an adult. Larry Kane (a news anchor for a philly station and not a Catholic, stated how moved he was just being in JPs presence (sp). Larry Kane put it nicely by saying something came over him just being in JP2s precense. I recall his motorcade riding up Broad street as a kid.

I didn’t get to attend Pope Benny’s visit here this past year.

Yes, if I had behaved according to your expectations, your barrage of insult might well have driven me off.

People do differ in their outlook and opinion; I’m glad to have been here to broaden your horizons.

Thank You...I am the luckiesy and most fortunate man I know and I'm not saying that as a cliche.

It's scary sometimes.

We all share the desire to see illegitimacy wane and nuclear families flourish [particularly in certain groups where it has decimated the lives of young men left to a drooge existence.

But I would never give up my grandkids or even great grandkids were I still of sound mind. I'm fortunate to be pretty comfortable and would not hesitate to take them in.

It's a code I live by....my will recognizes illegitimate heirs too btw...

A man has to be responsible for his own seed even if from a causal encounter and I believe anyhow that we are bound to care for the babies that come into our family regardless....I also help care for extended family too.

It's just how I am as was my father and so forth.

I tell my daughters....don't get pregnant, be discreet...realize the power you have and be wise about it but if you do get pregnant come to me and their momma and we'll work through this but under no circumstances will we abandon the child to strangers nor for God's sake kill it in the womb.

after 5 babies....another one won't break us anyhow

I have seen well off folks give up babies their teens had just like that and the grands were only early 40s....they were ashamed

they were cowards and self centered in my view...

I'm sure Sarah Palin did her best to get these kids to do ro right but sometimes a young woman has a mind of her own...can't lock them in a closet

Here I am thinking that I am glad you are not a relative or a neighbor.
