Report: Bristol Palin and Fiancé Split
TODAY ^ | 03.11.09 | STAFF

Posted on 03/11/2009 3:47:01 PM PDT by fight_truth_decay

The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."

Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

I tend to usually agree with as you make very informative posts. I don’t check posts but we’ve posted quite a bit in the same threads and I appreciate your take on things.

Illegitimacy has killed the black community. That was the reason I pinged you to this thread. Figured you could give some info on that.

I realize it’s happening to the poor white community also. It’s due to the lack of accountability and responsibility, overall, imo. Govt being the protector rather than individuals.

Anyway, I always appreciate your posts.

You put it perfectly, imo. No one is perfect, especially me. I think we all have more in common than not.

I don’t want to congratulate her. I don’t wish it on anyone. I also don’t want to slam her or blame her parents for decisions she’s made.

Pre marital sex isn’t desirable but it does happen and teens do engage in it.

You’re wrong. I don’t condone it. But, I don’t condemn anyone who does engage. There but for the grace of God and all that.

Bristol Palin and kids like her are blessed not only because they come from “successful” families but because they have families who put family first.

I’m not going to slam Sarah Palin for having a teen who had sex and became pregnant and has a beautiful baby. It doesn’t make Bristol a whore and it doesn’t make her parents bad parents. It doesn’t make her mother not fit to serve this country.

There are tons of teens who have sex and don’t get caught, and those who don’t have high profile parents who the public scrutinize. There’s also tons of teens who don’t have sex but we don’t hear/read about those because it’s not really news.

Take the assumptions you made and think about them. As a parent, trying to raise kids, I couldn’t give a damn what “society” thinks. It’s not about what looks ok to the neighbors or society. Fortunately, my teen years weren’t fodder for the entire world and my kids’ teen years won’t be either.

BTW, I didn’t fail to mention she got pregnant out of wedlock. The thread, as the world knows, this was the case. Think about assuming what someone says as ok and doing that passive-aggressive slam.

Hah! I did hear about that Jack Nicholson rumor. Not sure of the details.

Same with my kids high school. Back when I was in school, we had the pregnant classmates. There doesn’t seem to be as many today in their school but maybe we just don’t know for whatever reason.

Boys back then, in my brothers teen years, were having sex and they were having it with girls. It just wasn’t as publicized maybe.

Yes. Offering an opinion and making a "statement of fact" is a line many do not seem to be able to tell apart.

I know having sex outside of marriage is a sin and is wrong but I also know it's Sarah Palin's and God's business alone to deal with Bristol, not ours.

Are there any democrats who haven't had sex outside of marriage?

That's the bigger point in assessing why and whether this should even be a story.

Okay, back to lurking. Carry on.

Post 1057 - Terrific! (and nice to learn you're Roman-Catholic).

Aside - One wonders how Reagan ever got elected. After all Nancy was pregnant before they wed.

To Democrats, having sex outside of marriage is routine—as long as marriage is defined as between a man and a woman.

That's why they want to change the definition of marriage so as to validate their preferred preferences of consummation between sundry humans and sundry other humans or whatever animal, mineral,or vegetable recipients of their deviant and profane sexual affections.

If it feels good do it—if it means Hell screw it—the liberal way.

I can’t believe the vitriol here, ranging from forcably removing the child to this somehow being all of Bristol’s doing.

It takes two people to make a marriage and what you all call a “proper family”. When one is not even 20, there is little idea of what that really means. Ask me, I know because I went down that road 22 years ago.

My former husband and I were, as we thought, madly in love and planned to spend the rest of our lives together, and we ended up in the same situation. I gave birth to our daughter just after my 18th birthday, and we had been married six months before.

Our relationship took an immedite hit with all of the growing and maturing pains that all of a sudden being responsible for this new life brings. And it’s even more of a strain when at least one has a vastly harder time adjusting to it, refusing to give up that child-like selfcenteredness. Our marriage after that was a complete dysfunctional disaster.

My former husband refused to work, began to drink all the time, was verbally and emotionally abusive, and caroused around with other women, staying out until the wee hours coming home only to litterally pass out on the bed. I think he did this because he just could never face the huge undertaking that being a partent and husband is, and it eventually became part of his being.

As far as my daughter was concerned I had to be the strength, the absolute primary caregiver and bread winner because I simply could not trust her father with her alone, and he wasn’t about to take any kind of responsibility for feeding, clothing, and sheltering her. And for me, I married him, and I was trying to work through this stuff — trying to get him to help himself and be the father she needed despite our differences.

About four years into this, with it getting worse by the day, I discovered he was carrying on a relationship with some girl down the street and she had gotten pregnant. He had taken money that I worked for and gave it her for an abortion. It was then that I knew that all my efforts were simply that, just mine.

To this day, I will never forget getting into it with him over this, and him standing in our kitchen saying he didn’t want the responsibility of a family or to be married anymore. I gave him 10 minutes to grab whatever of his personal belongings he could and get the hell out of my sight. And then he disappeared. I don’t think I’ve had an occasion to even know his whereabouts for at least 17 years.

But, I will tell you that he gave me and my daughter a very special gift. The tension and constant misery vansihed along with him and I was able to be more focused on her and give more than I ever could with this disruptive force hovering over the house.

I worked my rear off being everything to her that she needed. I did it all myself and put myself through school —WITHOUT GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS — and I am proud of that, and that I went from making a vastly huge mistake for everyone involved to making lemonade out of the lemons that two kids had handed themselves.

There something to be said for that old saying that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I think that I also taught my daughter a lot about what life and living is all about with strong values and work ethics out of necessity, all because I became so acutely aware of them as a matter of just making it from one day to the next.

It is possible for a happy ending in Bristol’s case even though the father doesn’t seem to be interested in the two parent household. He is probably being more pragmatic about it and admitting he’s a coward more than people are giving him credit for. I think that puts him slightly above my former husband in terms of character, but I think I’ll wait and see if he takes his fatherhood seriously by providing for the child before making my mind up completely.

Blah, blah, blah, “pity your children,” blah, blah, blah.

Ignore the social damage, insult anyone who points it out.

That’s a winning solution.

Sometimes, I really wonder why anyone runs for office. How they put up with this scutiny amazes me. I’m so far from perfect and I’d hope my teen years wouldn’t be held up as fodder or against me. And, I didn’t do anything all that bad either, lol.

I’m not sure Reagan would be elected today. I didn’t know Nancy was pregnant before they wed, but he was divorced. And geez, considering Ron and that other daughter of his, could you imagine? Michael and I think Maureen were the kids from the first marriage with Jane Wyman (maybe they were adopted?, not sure of the details). His two kids with Nancy, Ron and the other one, can’t recall her name at the moment, Patty I think? geez. If we focused on them we would have been deprived of the one of the best Presidents ever, imo.

As a Catholic, I don’t think pre marital sex is ok. However, marriage is a Sacrament and not something one should enter into lightly or for convenience. And just because I didn’t do it before marriage doesn’t mean some don’t.

Thank you for your civilised response. I am merely arguing the traditional solution here; I don’t judge those who differ with me, merely the viability of their proposed alternatives, if any.

case even though the father doesn’t seem to be interested in the two parent household

Star magazine reported that Levi and Ms. Palin mutually decided “a while ago” to call things off. They then moved on to public recriminations, with Ms. Palin issuing a statement suggesting that her former betrothed and his sister had been trying to “cash in” on the Palin name. This is where the "white trash" comment came into play mentioned back in this discussion. Also, the young man's sister released this story..I wonder if any money changed hands ( in the cash in statement ).

By the way, "you are not stronger for it", you had the strength at the onset of your described relationship, you just had not yet become aware until after you had already drawn from it. After that you knew you could conquer whatever obstacles came your way. I wish you a happy life.
