Long Knives for Steele Already?
Red State ^ | March 1, 2009 | James Richardson

Katon Dawson, one time contender for the top Republican post, is quietly coordinating a vote of no confidence in newly-elected RNC Chairman Michael Steele after the NY 20 special election on March 31 – “regardless of whether Republicans win the seat or not,” reports Taegan Goddard.

"Wait just a gol-darm minute!"

If the wiki info on Dawson is correct (and if it's not why hasn't he changed it?), then the "Stupid Party" is going to boot a black chairman with a white Southerner who, in spite of his apparently modified beliefs, "was fiercely anti-desegregation." (For those in Rio Linda, that means he was pro-segregation.)

OHMYGOD.

What? We could dig up George Wallace? //S//

I find this to be incendiary and ugly.

Granted, Steele has done himself no favors with his tin-eared attack on Limbaugh, but replacing him with Dawson is, quite possibly, the only thing that would make the party look worse right now.

IIRC, Dawson was in the lead during one round of the voting. Go away, Dawson. We have a chair. The last thing we need is a very public, though internal, fight.

UPDATE: By way of the National Review’s Campaign Spot, Dawson writes:

“I support Michael Steele. Our Committee elected him knowing that he can lead us during this critical time for our Party. The people behind this anonymous rumor are clearly intent on dividing the Republican National Committee and our Party at a time when we need to be united.”

Give it up....an anti-American racist, who attended a racist church with his children for 20 years, was elected as President of the US.

The “Republicans are racists” lie is over.

Steele could end this tomorrow if he were a real Conservative.

Why would anyone want to be Republican party chair? They would have to be nuts. There is no way anyone could satisfy this bunch. The Republican party has too many factions and they all overlap and they all bitch all the time. Nothing ever satisfies any of them.

No, he couldn't. There is no satisfying this bunch. It's not possible.

Here’s the rub. He’s a Republican, not a Conservative, therefore, he will fail.

You want him to fail? What does it mean to fail? Do you want to continue to see RATS run this country? I despise RATS. I’ll take a Republican any time—even a RINO. Give me a RINO instead of these RATS.

I know this sounds conspiratorial, but if this is true, it may be occurring for a reason that is not apparent to most. According to rumor, the GOP leadership is supposed to fall into lockstep with and in the tank for Romney for 2012.

So what does Steele do. He gets conservatives (the base) angry and riled up because of his supposed criticism of Rush Limbaugh. But that’s not the nub. But what it boils down to is that when the RNC subsequently asked for donations by mail or over the phone the rumor is that many of these requests were sent back unopened or thrown back in Steele’s face on the phone and told whoever they could contact that they would for the forseeable future only be contributing to SarahPAC, Sarah Palin’s PAC. Imagine how many extra contributions and thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars more than Sarah might be getting. Who knows it might be in the millions! Now who does it hurt the most: you got it-Romney.

By the way, an e-mail from SarahPAC has just announced that she will travelling the country and working to support leaders who share this (conservative) vision. And of course SarahPAC will be footing the bill. Do you think perhaps that Sarah has few dollars in her war chest right now?

We aren’t talking about the Senate, it’s the RNC for God’s sake. We don’t need RINO’s running the RNC, or we will keep getting what we have been getting. I also didn’t say I wanted him to fail, I inferred that if he didn’t get a Conservative backbone soon, he would fail, regardless of what I want.

I sent this letter to the RNC after getting a request through the mail (with a return envelope "postage paid" from Steele for a donation….

Michael Steele -

I was going to give a donation to the RNC but after you attacked Rush Limbaugh the way you did recently, I have absolutely NO respect for you. You said things about Rush that can not be justified by a simple “I’m sorry I misspoke” reply. You were caught in a disgraceful act and no apology will make it right. Your words ring hollow.

Mr. Steele, I demand you RESIGN your position effective IMMEDIATELY!!! I will NEVER donate a single penny to the RNC as long as you are it’s Chairman.

I am ashamed of you and ashamed of the way YOU as well as the Republican Party have treated their BASE.

A Conservative Republican from Missouri who is pro-gun, pro-life, PRO-RUSH LIMBAUGH and against RINOS which you definitely fit the description.

Perhaps I was too subtle, I do apologize:

Last night, RNC Chairman Michael Steele appeared on D.L. Hughley’s show on CNN and disputed Hughley’s statement that Rush Limbaugh “is the de facto leader of the Republican Party.” “I’m the de facto leader of the Republican Party!” Steele insisted. Steele admitted that Limbaugh’s shtick is “incendiary” and “ugly”:

STEELE: So let’s put it into context here. Let’s put it into context here. Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. Yes, it’s incendiary. Yes, it’s ugly.
