Senate Democrats have dealt a setback to a Republican-sponsored school voucher program that gives schoolchildren in the nation's capital the chance to attend private schools.
The Senate voted 50-39 along mostly party lines to reject a bid by Nevada Republican Sen. John Ensign to extend the program beyond the 2009-2010 school year. That leaves in place a provision contained in a huge spending bill that requires Congress and the Washington, D.C. government to re-approve the program. Republicans say that is likely to kill it.
About 1,700 mostly low-income and minority students kids receive the $7,500 vouchers, which offer an alternative to the troubled D.C. school system.

Mascots. That’s what they are.
And mascot means “pet”.
” Obama hates POOR black kids and don't want them near his children. They are TOO black for the nations first Halfrican American POTUS.”
I hope it gets A LOT of airtime about this.
The media will dutifully ignore it.
It will have to be a paid for advertisement, or something viral on youtube.
Just where the HELL is the congressional black cacus on this one?
“The media will dutifully ignore it.”
This is a PR gold mine for the Republicans. Pictures of Obama’s kid arriving in a limo. The voucher kids crying. Voucher kids arriving at ghetto school. Fat, rich Democrats and union officials laughing.
Gold Jerry...gold...
The idiot D.C. voters will be blaming the Repubs before its over.
Nam Vet
Gold, yes,
and no one with the balls to pick it up and run with it.
A better question to me is wny do blacks keep electing Democrats?

That's the page where all the roll call votes in the Senate are posted online.
This amendment was S.A.615, "Ensign Amdt. No. 615; To strike the restrictions on the District of Columbia Opportunity Scholarship Program." The vote was vote # 94.
Going to that page, we see Crapo (R-ID), Murkowski (R-AK), Snowe (R-ME) and Specter (R-PA) voted against educating children and in favor of the Teachers' Unions. Johanns (R-NE) and Kennedy (D-MA) are the only Senators shown "Not Voting." Also note that Byrd (D-WV), and Warner (D-VA) voted for the amendment (to keep the program), and should be commended for this vote. Other than that, it was a party line vote, Dems agains, Republicans for. The final vote was 39 for the amendment, 58 against.
Thanks you so much for that sight, it is now in my favorites.
As for which R’s voted no, the usual suspects, Snowe and Specter, joined by Murkowski
D’s voting Yea, Byrd and Warner, with Independant Lieberman.
Very Simple. Because the Civil Rights Movement, a great moral cause supported by Republicans, was hijacked by the Democrats and turned into a political movement. Thus the Blacks continually get shafted by the Democrats by more powerful political groups but are kept in line by the promise of power for the few elitists.
In this case, the powerful teacher unions have more influence than African Americans. So the Democrats say to the Blacks, sorry your kids lose. Hey, but we will pass affirmative action programs that, if your kids aren't first in jail after they drop out of a worthless public school, we will get your kids into college whether or not they deserve it. Then, assuming they don't wash out, we have worthless studies they can major in like Black Studies. Then when they graduate and are unemployable, they can have jobs with activist groups funded by the federal government like ACORN.
Then the few Blacks that make it out of this trap go onto cable channels and advocate democratic policies and claim Republicans are racist and don't understand the Black community.
