It's an old cliché that the more repressed a society, the more extreme its pornographybut more upsetting than RapeLay is the social environment that birthed it. The premise here is that a wealthy man is out for revenge against the schoolgirl who had him jailed as a chikan, or subway pervert. The epidemic of chikan is an enormous problem in Japan, particularly in major cities, where trains are so crowded that it's easy for predators to conceal their crimes. In Declan Hayes' 2005 book, The Japanese Disease, the author describes a community of salarymen who organize online "groping associations" and subscribe to publications that suggest ideal train lines and timetables for attacks.

I honestly don’t see this being even remotely popular in the U.S. This seems to be straight Japanese insanity.
Really? We’re folowing their failed economic model, which leads to sick variants of this same behavior...
SICK SICK SICK!!!!!!
>> It’s an old cliché that the more repressed a society, the more extreme its pornography <<
Really? That’s not an old cliché; that’s a ridiculous assertion of the left starting in the 1970s.
Let’s go pull out that pornography from 1620s Massachusetts and give that theory a test, shall we?
While the moral outrage from the New York City Council and Web sites like Jezebel and Shakesville is obviously well-placed, there's little hope that legislation or activism can stem the perversion.
Moral outrage? Hmm sounds like somebody is trying to cram their values down our throats. Where's the tolerance?
What 90% of the world does not realize is that the top floor of almost every Japanese game store is the porn game floor, and a mistrodden trip up the escalator into one of these places reveals games that makes ones like this seem TAME.
Pervs in America are interested in these games enough to pay some other pervs that know Japanese and English well enough to translate the text scripts. Someone picks up on this idea, copyrights it, and sells it. It’s been happening with Japanese cartoon porn forever, so why not video games?
I can say from 1st hand knowledge though that this game is not available to children commercially. Japanese are pretty strict about letting this stuff leak into their own games - the Japanese PTA moms of the 90’s that got tatas of TV, saw to that.

Besides, exactly how repressed are Japanese men? Their pornograhy pervades every niche of life. Is that really repressed?
Nope. Believe it or not, this is nowhere near the first instance of a game like this in Japan, and they never catch on over here (assuming they’re even released here). I almost pity the publisher that would try to bring this over here.
Grand Theft Auto (part IV in particular) is about far more than just random violence and mayhem. Comparing this tripe to GTA is like comparing “Hostel” to “Goodfellas.” Not even in the same league.
The dummy who wrote this must have never heard of "Two Girls One Cup" a product of Brazil, where they are practically fornicating in the streets.
I realize that, but the sick behavior continues to spread anyway..
No thats just japan
This kind of sick/weird S*** has allaws been over there
The irony is that GTA was banned for several years in Japan. Japan did not want Rockstar and their games to expand to Japan, so they allowed it to be filtered and licensed by CAPCOM in 2003.
You can really see the cultures clash when you consider that American men are shocked that a man would fantasize about groping a woman on the subway, yet Japanese men are shocked that American porn would show unfettered genitalia.
When the foundations crumble, what will the righteous do?
I can’t help but think of Bette Davis’ quote about the bumpy ride.
This is totally sick!
Yup, but without Slate, repeated freeper posts, and other assorted outrages about this “game,” it would not have received nearly the attention and therefore market that it has. It would have been a flop reaching only a very small group of hardcore pervs. Now some people who wouldn’t have even know about it will read these articles. Some might even — like the author of the Slate piece — try it out.
In other words, for a piece of garbage such as this, all press is going to be negative, but it will also all help get the game distributed far more widely than it would have been otherwise. (I couldn’t bring myself to use the word “good” in any context directly related to the “game” or its press.)
You wouldn't believe some of the manga, a lot of which is available on the shelf at your local bookstore. Japanese pornography laws allow artists and animators to depict fully nude women and graphic sex scenes (rape, beastiality, etc...), so long as they do not show any pubic hair!
I remember reading years ago about how Japanese gamers were turned off by violence in their games but sex and nudity was totally normal. In particular the article mentioned “Mortal Kombat II” and how the blood had to be changed from red to green in order to keep from offending Japanese arcade-goers.
It really is a different world over there, in many ways. I have a lot of respect for Japanese culture, but there’s also a lot that’s repulsive about it.
bump for later
