CA: Republicans continue to target their own in budget aftermath

The fallout from the state budget mess continues for Republican lawmakers.

Two more GOP legislators are being targeted for a recall by fellow Republicans, not because the lawmakers voted for the budget that included tax increases (they didn't), but because they didn't support the attempted ouster of the Republican Assembly leader who helped broker the deal.

The Republicans are mad at Assemblymen Jeff Miller of Corona (Riverside County) and Jim Silva of Huntington Beach (Orange County) because they wouldn't go along with the bouncing of Assembly Republican leader Mike Villines of Clovis (Fresno County).

Villines survived the coup attempt. Over in the Senate, GOP leader Dave Cogdill of Modesto wasn't so lucky. He lost his leadership job before the budget passed last month.

...Assemblyman Anthony Adams, R-Hesperia (San Bernardino County), who voted for the budget and now must contend with Republicans in his district wanting to remove him from his office.

Adios, Anthony!

Roger Niello of Sacramento is escaping mention in the press because he represents a huge number of State bureaucrats but he should be run out of town on a rail for caving to the socialists. If you live in the area, don’t buy a car from his dealership.

I thought they were being targeted because they voted FOR Maldonado’s Open Primary demands, which in turn allowed for Maldonado to cast the necessary vote for passage of the budget.

I didnt’ think it had anything to do with Villines’s leadership position. There were plenty of folks that voted not to oust him.

As Californians circle the drain, their leaders will reach up one more time and .............. pull the flush lever.

When I was in LA two weeks ago, that’s all they could talk about.

John and Ken had 1000’s at an anti-tax rally on Saturday and the rally was on KFI 640 AM. NOT ONE WORD in the LA Slimes!! The people are in revolt against any POS that voted for the tax increases in the budget bill that was just passed.

Some people, not THE people.

The anti-tax rally was in Fullerton. Big whoop. When you get the same in Novato or Antioch or Dublin, then we have something.

15,000 people were there from all over southern California! I don’t understand your comment re Novato, Antioch, or Dublin! None of those towns have the population of southern CA. Please help me understand your comment.

The problem in California is not that we can’t get conservatives riled up and voting - its that there are just too few of us. Its fine to have 15,000 people show up in Orange County. Its just that Orange County is a given, and they are a drop in the bucket. Orange county is one of the very few populous places in California that can still be counted on to go Republican.

Novato, Antioch and Dublin are SF Bay Area suburbs. They are typical of the places where the balance of electoral power lies. There are suburbs like this everywhere.

These are places that used to be pretty reliably Republican, or at least fairly conservative, back in the 1980’s-1990’s. They switched to the Democrats a decade ago, like a lot of similar places in California. If there is going to be a hope of getting California back, these are the places that will have to switch back. If these places have similar gatherings, then I would think that there is something significant happening.

I lived in no CA 10 years so I’m familiar with those towns. I agree with you that there are too few conservatives in the state. The people who attended the rally in Orange County were also from L. A. County, Ventura County, San Bernardino County, Riverside County, San Diego County and more; many of the folks who attended are Democrats who are mad that our taxes have been increased. Orange County is quickly slipping into the Democratic side; I believe in less than 10 years it will be D, as all the newly registered voters are young people who are Ds. The reason the rally was in southern CA is because J&K are on a radio station in L. A. so obviously their audience is in so CA. Perhaps someone could get something similar started in northern CA. J&K said if they had known the crowd would be so large, they would have had it in The Staple Center in L. A.

It’s okay for you to poo-poo the size of the crowd, but my guess is that you don’t live in so CA so you’re naturally not impressed by anything that occurs down here. Yeah, I know this comment is a bit nasty, but so be it.

On the contrary, I have lived in San Francisco and the Bay Area for 22 years now, and I’m still a resident of San Francisco.

I’ve seen the population change since the 1980’s here around the Bay and in Southern California and around Sacramento. I don’t like to poo-poo things, being a bit on the Quixotic side (as a San Francisco Republican has to be), but still, one has to be realistic. Maybe theres a new mood around that will amount to something, I certainly hope there is, but I still doubt that much will change.
