So Much for the "Mythical" Freedom of Choice Act.
Inside Catholic.com ^ | March 9, 2009 | Deal Hudson

"Many Democrats are wise enough to have a healthy fear of FOCA, the Freedom of Choice Act. Those on the religious left who support President Barack Obama are particularly sensitive to the symbolic power of FOCA to undercut their messaging about "abortion reduction." If FOCA were to cause much-beloved Catholic hospitals to begin shutting their doors, the political impact would be devastating.

Thus, it came as no surprise several weeks ago when some of Obama's religious supporters began accusing pro-lifers -- particularly Catholics -- of using FOCA as a scare tactic when it had not yet been introduced into the 111th Congress."

Dr. Deal Hudson joins us with his opinion on these Orwellian brave new world decisions by Obama.

Stem Cell Research and Freedom of Choice (FOCA) Act

“In the new America we are building, all will be asked to make sacrifices for the common good,” the Executive Order read.

It's positively Orwellian. Saying that it is time that “even the smallest Americans make a positive contribution,” Obama today issued an Executive Order reversing the Bush Administration’s policy of prohibiting the use tax dollars to fund the harvesting of stem cells from aborted fetuses. Expanding the range of federal taxpayer support of possibly cloning human embryos. Putting science ahead of values.

In August 2001, President George W. Bush signed an executive order banning federal funding on embryonic stem cell research except for a few dozen lines that were grandfathered in. The White House at the time estimated scientists would have more than 60 cell lines to use, but ultimately fewer than two dozen lines were usable.

Twice during his presidency, Mr. Bush vetoed efforts to overturn his ban. TONIGHT...

Obama promised top priority to signing FOCA during the campaign.

People should take the threat seriously.

If the president is backing down from it, excellent. But he should be manuevered into doing so publicly to bury the measure permanently and lose a little face with his base.

The only reason FOCA has not been signed yet is the economy and the stock market are collapsing. He can’t afford the controversy right now. When the economic situation starts to improve, FOCA will be right back on the front burner.

This president is obsessed with advancing the abortion agenda. “Possessed” might be a better word to describe him.

Obama has no “intention” at all ~ he’s a mindless puppet. Others pull the strings and he jumps.

A Proposal with a 100% Failure Rate!

If there's little or no hope of success, why would Obama do this?

Orders from above? Maybe, but, again, why? Who benefits other than a small group of researchers?

IMHO this is nothing other than a backdoor subsidy to Abortion Providers in general and Planned Parenthood in particular. Who else can provide fetal stem cells in quantity?

It's just tissue, right? So selling of body parts of aborted babies would be a legal, ethical and very profitable business for an industry whose growth has been flat lately.

just when you think they couldn't sink any lower...

Ghouls.

De-humanization is a good first step toward depriving people of human rights.

It may be legal but it will never be ethical.

We agree.

What I was attempting (clumsily) to convey was that IF you believe that an aborted baby was "only tissue", then ripping it up and selling it would be "ethical".

Obviously you don't believe that, and I don't either.

Hence the "Ghoul" comment.
