40 Days for Life consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion,
40 days of constant, peaceful vigil outside abortion centers and Planned Parenthood offices
and 40 days of active pro-life community outreach.
Your community may be participating in this prayerful vigil.
If so, please join others in your area
or unite with thousands across America
during the 40 days of Lent
in praying for an end to abortion in this nation.
We pray for the strength to love those who do not love us.
SCRIPTURE
But the Lord said "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in the night and perished in the night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left, and much livestock? Should I not be concerned about that great city?"
-- Jonah 4:10-11
REFLECTION by Dennis DiMauro, Lutherans for Life
God doesn't value people and things like we do.
Jonah loved a shade tree more than an entire city of sinful people. We love our dogs more than a terrorist. We love our cars more than a beggar on the side of the road. And sometimes, we love our money more than a child growing in a desperate teenager's womb.
But God isn't like us. Genesis 1 tells us that humans were the capstone of God's creation.
We were created on the sixth day after God had completed the land, the stars, the plants and the animals. Therefore, His love for us is greater than His love for a plant, an animal, or any other created thing.
And the book of Jonah tells us that He loves even the most sinful people and seeks to bring them into His merciful arms. And it's a love that seeks to touch all of his created children: that desperate teenager, the baby growing in her womb, even tyrants and terrorists.
So it's up to us to imitate God's merciful love by helping and praying for those who persecute us, and those who don't love us back.
PRAYER
Gracious God, loving our enemies seems like one of most difficult things you could ask of us.
Please remind us that this is how you love and that if you ask it of us then you will give us the grace to do it. This we ask through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Equip us with Your love so that we may defend not only the innocent babies but also that we may pray for the mothers who choose abortion instead of life. Make us instruments of Your peace in this world of strife. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Abortion is an obomination. Liberals talk about torture of terrorists and yet they find absolutely nothing wrong with the premeditated murder of the unborn and the innocent.
Obama is a baby killer.
How long, O Lord, must it be before You requite each precious life that has been lost to the butchery of abortion? If it were today, then come, Lord Jesus, even as we pray for the redemption of those whose hearts and hands are bloodied with the most innocent of blood. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we cry out ... Amen ...
“Obama is a baby killer.”
Absolutely correct. Now watch, with the lifting of the federal embryonic stem cell funding ban, black market merchants in stem cells offering cash and free abortions to young, pregnant women on the low end of the economic scale.
Amen.
To say nothing about their defense of animals (which I love, too). But human babies? No they're just tissue and it's a choice, don'tcha know? Ignoring the Creator of all things causes one to be confused about all things.
Amen to your beautiful prayer, Pegita. So glad you got to hold that baby. There is nothing so precious as one who has just arrived from the Creator’s hand.
Fighting this is a waste of time until we change Congress. As long as the Democrats are in power, there is nothing you will be able to do.
prayer bump!
Amen to your beautiful prayer!
Never underestimate the power of prayer. God changes hearts.
Not mine — I copied it from a Catholic site. I just liked the references to life and light!
I don’t underestimate prayer. But I was also raised that God expects you to stand up and do for yourself. Prayer alone won’t solve anything. Especially when it comes to politics.
I understand. God is looking for people who will be His hands and feet to stand in the gap for the unborn. Prayer makes hearts ready to receive God’s guidance so that He can direct us into any actions He wants us to take. The doors that open will be from His hand.
