A humanitarian convoy led by maverick MP George Galloway carrying medical supplies for Gaza has come under attack in Egypt
The convoy, carrying aid worth £1 million, was pelted with stones and vandalised after it stopped in El-Arish, a small town around 28 miles from the Rafah border crossing with Gaza.
"It's an absolute disgrace,'' convoy organiser Yvonne Ridley told AFP. "The power was cut. Under cover of darkness members of our convoy were attacked with stones.
"Vandals also wrote dirty words and anti-Hamas slogans,'' she said. "Several people in the convoy were injured in the attack."
(snip)
"George Galloway is still in negotiations," said Ms Ridley. "What we have agreed to do is to separate the medical aid from the non-medical aid. The non-medical will go into Gaza via the Egyptian Red Crescent."
The convoy is expected to continue to Gaza today.
In early February, it was alleged that three Islamist terror suspects arrested in northwest England had planned to leave the country under cover of Mr Galloway's convoy. Intelligence sources said that the men were planning a terrorist operation abroad.

This is delicious! To be savored!
He’s also the ‘jerk’ that was laundering money for, and was in the payroll of, Saddam Hussein.
Wasn’t he also a great buddy of Yasser Arafat? Somehow when I hear Galloway mentioned, Yasser come to my mind as well.
Hes also the jerk that was laundering money for, and was in the payroll of, Saddam Hussein.
...and still an MP, must have that Barney Frank thing all figured out, or some awfully stupid voters. Sure, a bit of both.
Bingo

GAZA - WE ARE ALMOST THERE
As copied from George’s official MP website.
Misleading & disappointing headline - doesn’t say anything about Galloway being hit by rocks, though he certainly deserves it and more.
Sounds like a publicity stunt, IMHO.
You may be right about that.
However, I don’t see why Galloway would permit anybody to contradict his “Everybody Loves Hamas” tour.
Read it all ping.
Unless the message is: “Anyone who does not like Hamas is a mean-spirited vandal”.
I can certainly understand why reasonable people would be pro-Israel and anti-Hamas but these are Muslims, not reasonable people. Why are they anti-Hamas?
OBJECTION
He is not English he is a Scott, and is an MP in a constituency where shall we say the voters are a little bit (NOT ENGLISH) Care being taken because we can go to prison for free speech in this country. In Britain you can stand in the street as an ethnic and spout treason, if your English you cannot speak the truth or you get prosecuted.
This is a restriction you do not seem to have thrust upon you in America so have a heart when you judge us. And in fact it does not work in Britain as you seem to think. A party that polls a greater proportion of the vote does not win in the UK so please do not generalise about the Feelings of Brits. We are suffering the same as you in our leadership and its not popular here.
Obama was not popular with Brits prior to his election and in truth most people (contrary to what the press says) had not heard of him. Bush was popular as we saw him as an average Jo. We don’t care what you concluded from our leadership or the press. The powers that be in UK are considering ways to make the public vote and pay attention to Politics, so why do you imagine we would as a majority think about your. Less than half those entitled to vote in the UK do so. ITS CALLED APATHY.
Economics.
Did you add the word “medical” in the first sentence of the article as you pasted it here on FR or did the Times Online people edit their original article sometime after you pasted it here? Somehow I doubt that you would have had any reason to add it on your own, it is more likely that the original article was edited. The reason it caught my eye was that I was going to comment on how the article was misleading in the first sentence making you think that the convoy was carrying only medical supplies when later in the article it states that they separated the medical stuff from the non-medical stuff. The thing I found interesting about it was that they didn’t elaborate on what the ‘non-medical’ stuff was.
I did a direct cut-and-paste. TimesOnline must have edited after I posted it.
How interesting. You are absolutely right. They probably got comments back that they were contradicting themselves and corrected.
Galloway’s the chap that gave Arafat his AIDS.
Totally off.
The most popular political party in Egypt is the Muslim Brotherhood, which is very closely aligned with Hamas. The unpopular ruling party, led by President Mubarack, sees the Brotherhood as its main threat. So it strongly opposes Hamas (which is very different from being "pro-Israel"). But the vast majority of Egyptians are supportive of Hamas, their government's position to the contrary notwithstanding.
