The Limbaugh speech is an example of why popular conservatism today is, as the saying goes, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. The first thing we learn from the Master's orotund remarks is that there is nothing conservatives need to rethink in light of dramatically changed circumstances.
Limbaugh's ideology makes an idol of nationalism and optimism. He dunned Barack Obama for saying hard times were ahead, denouncing him for his lack of faith in America. I think Rush meant as a politician running for office. He's apparently a mesmerizing speaker, for those who are already enthralled with him. Almost everyone I saw interviewed after one of his speeches couldn't tell you a thing he said, he just made them 'feel good'.
I can't stand his phone 'preacher cadence'. Every time I heard him speak on the campaign trail, he sounded like he was trying, and failing, to channel Dr. Martin Luther King, But having the media behind him, which he orchestrated well, put him over the top.
Exactly.
