Subject: Denzel Washington, and Brooks Army Medical Center Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center , in San Antonio , Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time. While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it The question is - why do: Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise and other Hollywood fluff make front page news with their ridiculous antics and Denzel Washington's Patriotism doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San Antonio . A true American and friend to all in uniform! This needs as wide a distribution as we can create. Share it! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do believe it is Denzel. Regardless if he was an Obama voter, he quietly visits our troops at Walter Reed without any fanfare and I’ve known his involvement with Fisher House for quite some time.
It is just unfortunate that I have to get info about his visits in Soldier of Fortune magazine.

This is a true story, but it happened five years ago! It’s so funny how the internet works. I’m not saying this to reprimand you, or anything like that. It’s just that posting it here will mean it will be picked up again and sent around the world via email. I remember getting this email many years ago. Still, a nice reminder that there are celebrities who quietly do good work.

I do applaud Denzel Washington for doing this. It says a lot about him, whatever his politics or past commentary.
I hope that more successful people also are moved to make donations.
As we nation, we owe our soldiers and their families a great deal.

Fisher Houses rock. I first heard about them years ago a fellow Army mom lost her granddaughter to SIDS. Fisher House provided shelter and comfort to the grandparents and made it easier for us moms to help the entire family.

You should always check out these emails before you post or send them out. There is some truth - he did visit. There is some false - he didn’t write out a check in the amount it would cost to build one - that is from the horse’s (Denzel) mouth.

Because he did NOT write a check on the spot, he did NOT write it for enough to buy a new building. The store was highly fabricated.
I guess it depends on the meaning of IS.
