Because Rush knows liberals, how they think, why they do what they do and can interpret their convoluted thinking for the rest of us. Therefore, he's a big threat to them and their agenda.

They manufacture and market a bogeyman created from a highly distorted and amplified caricature of Limbaugh. The persona is cruel, bigoted, dogmatic, and dangerous. Then when any logical or substantive discussion is drawing attention to their socialist agenda, they only need to invoke the name of Limbaugh to create a highly negative Pavlovian response from the MSM and their brainwashed sheeple to bypass conscious reasoning that would surely bring into question their agenda.
This is what they did with Newt Gingrich and it worked like the Queen of Harts in the movie "The Manchurian Candidate". Scary, effective stuff. They're using every tool in the Saul Alinsky playbook and it's working magnificently.

The Republican party needs to create interesting and informative 5 minute TV spots and buy TV time to air them. It should be easy enough to explain how the Democrats are trying to kill the middle class. This needs to be done as soon as possible.

It's far past time the gloves came off and the PC, nicey nice atmosphere was done away with.
We are literally in a fight for the survival of this country as we know it and our side better start acting accordingly or it's going to turn into the "ultimate" fight.

Rush better not go out driving, even with a chauffeur. However, he's much more useful to them in the near future as a boogey man, trying to paint anyone (especially anyone who admits to being Republican) but more precisely anyone who isn't for Obama as a hatefilled Nazi racist type. After that effort fails, all bets are off. Rush is a powerful informer, who can bypass the controlled media to get information and philosophy out to the public. God bless and keep Rush. We need him now more than ever.
