NEW YORK (Reuters) - President Barack Obama is open to the idea of reaching out to moderate elements of the Taliban, The New York Times reported on Saturday.
In an interview with the newspaper published on its website, Obama said that some of the U.S. success in Iraq involved reaching out to Islamic fundamentalists who had been alienated by the tactics of al Qaeda in Iraq.
"There may be some comparable opportunities in Afghanistan and the Pakistani region," he said. "But the situation in Afghanistan is, if anything, more complex."
Obama, who last month approved the deployment of 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan as part of an effort to stabilize the country, had suggested before becoming president that he was open to talks with more moderate Taliban leaders.
Insurgent violence is at its highest in Afghanistan since U.S.-led forces toppled the Taliban in late 2001. Obama, who sees the Afghan conflict as a more pressing concern than the unpopular war in Iraq, is trying to convince other NATO nations to boost troop commitments to the international operation.

Leftists share many beliefs in common with Islamists—hatred of Western civilization in general, hatred of America and Israel in particular, hatred of Christianity, hatred of capitalism, nostalgia for pretechnological society—and leftists believe that on the basis of these shared atavisms, they can reach an understanding with the jihadists who are “moderate,” i.e. willing to overlook the leftists’ lack of religious belief.
If it's the same way he "reached out" to Republicans, they had better watch their rear.

So, I had a brilliant idea:
BHO should send his wife as a Special Envoy to meet with these Taliban to begin the reconciliation. She needs to be sure to wear one of her sleeveless dresses, preferably with a slit up the side. Then we’ll see how “moderate” they are.
Moderate terrorists will only blow themselves up in SUVs, never a hybrid.
What’s sad is the majority of the people who read that headline will think “Hey, that’s a great idea!”
These moderates must be the ones that only stone their women
and not behead or shoot them.
Shades of those who thought there were “Moderate NAZIs.” You know, like Chamberlain.

That's all they understand and that's all that will do.
This moron Obama talks about grasping their hand if they will just unclinch their fist. If they get close ebough to do that, and if we are so foolish as to grasp that hand that they unflinch...they will use it to pull us to them and then stick a knife in our kidney with the other hand.
But Obama knows all of this...he was raised early on in that environment. It's not about Maerica or Amerioca's best interests...as his unflolding economic plan makes clear. it's about fundamentally changing America away from her historic, republican, liberty minded, and morally grounded roots.
