After insulting Gordon Brown during the British prime ministers visit this week by ignoring protocol and cheaping out on the traditional gift exchange, the UK media has erupted in outrage.
The Obama White House has now started to recognize the firestorm the new President created with our closest ally, and wants to assure the Brits that he meant no disrespect. Instead, Obama apparently wants to assure them that hes simply in over his head and floundering (via Radio Equalizer):
Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been overwhelmed by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.
British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the presidents surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obamas inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to even fake an interest in foreign policy.
The American source said: Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.
That was the gamble these guys made at the front end of this presidency and I think theyre finding it a hard thing to do everything.
Im not sure which is worse. At least if he meant to snub Brown, it would suggest a certain competence at this brand of diplomacy. Instead, were told that the Obama White House and their staff are just a bunch of incompetents who got in over their heads. Which is, of course, the point we made continuously over the last two years.
Had he had even an inkling of intelligence he would have picked an experienced knowledgeable VP. Instead he picked the buffoon Biden which is no help at all on any front...
0bama literally isn't qualified to run a convenience store. America made a TERRIBLE mistake in electing him. The only good news about this is that anyone who give you that deer in the headlights look when you talk about Jimmy Carter will now understand when you say "He was just like 0bama".
Only history will tell us if he will be better or worse than Jimmy Carter. God help us if he's worse, and right now that's the path he's on.
and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
When you go from 'community organizer' to leader of the free world, you should expect an uptick in workload.
'bama, it is your pay grade now.
You can stop right there.
One of my favorite sayings, because it's so true.
The British were begging for Obama.
Don’t really care what they think now.
What was it that he said when McCain wanted to postpone the first debate? Something like “a President should be able to do two things at once.”
Sorry, Obama is going to make Carter look like a piker at failure.
If he’s now on the British media hit list then he’s totally screwed because they’re very vicious.
That is because he is a low grade dirtbag....
Forget Brown... I think Obama owes George Bush an apology for all the things he said about Bush's presidency.

That's right, I'll say it - THAT'S RACIST!
Doesn’t anyone get it? The Presidency is his just and due reward for all those arduous years of campaigning: an endless perk-soaked (Roman) holiday, with the power of (economic) life and (medical) death over a nation and with the staff, as always, tending to the boring nitty-gritty details.
Combine that with the fact that they couldn't find a Russian speaker in all of the Department of State...These guys aren't bowing to any kind of experience.
LOL...I should have read down thread before I posted!
Money for nuthin' and the chicks are free.
But I thought it was George W. Bush who was a midget in the White House? That’s what the liberals and leftists said for eight years. And they’re never wrong. Just ask them.
.... by accident.
