Chalk another one up to El Rushbo. He correctly pointed out that the only people who get hurt when Obama attacks corporation's lavish lifestyles and business conferences are the very people who Obama claims to help. I mean these planes aren't created magically, and somebody's gotta serve the food and make the beds at five-star hotels. More unintended consequences - hopefully these workers will wake up and realize who's to blame.

No way the prospects of far higher taxes on the rich and a generally anti-business climate are hurting employees at a private jet maker. After all, the employees aren’t “rich” so they’re not the ones Obama is asking to make sacrifices for their country.

Also shame on so called conservatives here who criticized the “evil” big wigs without realizing who gets hurt the most..

Remember when GHB (it was GHB, right?) enacted that 25% luxury tax? Instead of making the rich pay, it absolutely destroyed the yacht building industry on the east coast, and the rich simply used it as an excuse to travel outside the US and buy their fancy yachts elsewhere.

Just nationalize Gulfstream.

A few years ago, the class warfare a**hole politicians decided to "punish the rich" by taxing each yacht at the point of manufacture.
The net result of this was that virtually the entire industry moved offshore to places like the Bahamas.
They need to be force-read Thomas Sowell's Applied Economics - Thinking Beyond Stage One.

Who was it? Carter or Clinton? (Carter I believe) who ruined the luxury yacht business after demonizing and imposing a 10% luxury tax on U.S. manufacturers. The big Zero, Carter II , to be sure !

Once Obama completes his wealth redistribution you will have to get the money to buy a Gulfstream from 10,000 people like the New Orleans roof perchers, Peggy The Moocher and Henrietta The Whiner.

I did some contracting work at Gulfstream in the 90s in Savannah. I hate to see these good folks lose their jobs. The G-5 is the finest piece of aircraft you can buy in private aviation.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
Gulfstream was one of the premiere manufacturing success stories in the US. While many manufactures fled to less hostile business climates, Gulfstream actually expanded it's US operations. I can't say that this was unpredictable. When you have a President that has done nothing but show absolute contempt for private aviation, the writing was on the wall.
Now, another manufacturering company that employees highly compensated blue and white collar jobs is shrinking from it's former self - Hope and Change!

Gosh, do you really think that Washington could have anything to do with fewer orders for corporate jets? Wow, I’m gobsmacked, just gobsmacked. How could anyone think such a thing?
Enjoy your $489 per week while it lasts. Consider your votes if there is a next time.

What was that noise going over your abandoned private airport? Urkel in your 747 and Blinky on her 757 broom. They don’t take on fuel at your puny little airport. Now you know the meaning of “flyover” country.

A few years ago they went after Yacht owners, hitting them with luxury taxes to discourage ownerships. That, of course, hit the shipyards hard and they began laying off workers. The economic effect of such luxury items is not trickle down, but splash. Like rocks thrown into the water, they causes waves that extend out in proportion to the impact. A $5 million airplane causes ripples that reach way out, ending up with pencils bought in Walmart. Rush spelled this out, but I was reminded of what was involved in the building and maintenance of a squadron of Fighters at Ramstein Air Base. Millions of people made their living off of these planes, not only the ten to twenty pilots who flew them but the workers in the shops that built the smallest parts for it and everyone in the chain between.

Thursday Gulfstream Aerospace announced they are going to lay off 1,200 workers and temporarily lay off another 1,500 this summer.I would love to see a poll which breaks down how many of these 2,700 workers were morons who voted for that p.o.s. Dumbo.

Wonder if the drive-by media will compare this job loss to the trivial deals Baraq has been flying around the country to publicize?

cessna already had layoffs thanks to our esteemed leader - probably delay production of their new citation cj4
this will hit all the industries that provide the components for these planes too
the avionics for gulfstream’s new g250 would use rockwell collins new fusion product - bet that took some r&d to produce and i am not sure if anyone else uses it - but the democrats will probably extend unemployment benefits for another year for those rockwell collins guys put out of work
barry sure is punishing those rich guys that buy private jets
here is the model plane rush tools around in - gulfstream’s g550
