Obama’s Crutch — Why Is He So Afraid of Speaking Without a Teleprompter?
Fox ^ | 3/7/09 | John Lott

Posted on 03/07/2009 8:59:57 AM PST by pissant

Late night comedians have had a difficult problem. Presidents are usually the source of most late night joke, but comedians are having a hard time finding any material to make jokes about President Obama. This isn’t anything new, it was also true during the campaign.

Possibly they just need some help. Could you imagine if Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush had used a teleprompter to answer questions during a press conference? The late night joke writers wouldn’t have let it go until the President gave in to the merciless ridicule as he was painted as an idiot who couldn’t tie his shoes without being fed instructions on how to do it.

While people who watched Obama’s first national press conference noticed his use of a teleprompter to give his initial presentation as well as in answering questions, the media and late night joke writers completely ignored it. The American Spectator notes that in many events:

…down to many of the questions and the answers to those questions … [t]eleprompter screens at the events scrolled not only his opening remarks, but also statistics and information he could use to answer questions.

Apparently, Obama is looking to install a computer screen into the White House podiums so that, according to one Obama advisor, “It would make it easier for the comms guys to pass along information without being obvious about it.” [Emphasis added.] Obama’s aides would put together answers to a large number of possible questions so as soon as a reporter asks a particular question the computer screen could flash talking points to remind Obama how he’s supposed to respond to that question.

This malady is much the same as people who can't tell the truth rarely drink alcohol.

When they imbibe they are unable to remember many of their past lies well enough to relate them in the same manner they told them previously. Hence that old saying about never trusting a man who doesn't drink.

Notice how Rush's recent CPAC speech was done without a teleprompter, and very little take on notes?

Worth repeating:

How can it be a press conference if he can use a teleprompter?

Only way is to give the questions to "plants" in the press corps and then call on them in sequence of the script.

MSM should, but is most definitely is not, ashamed of their malfeasance where this dolt is concerned.

Remember when they accused Bush of having something under his jacket that was used to feed answers to him from Dick Cheney or Carl Rove? They made it sound as if he were an imbecile!

If the media were to ridicule The Kenyan on his...let's bundle it all up and call it "inexperience", they'd look mighty hypocritical given their treatment of Sarah Palin. Go to YouTube and search for 'palin faye' to see what I mean.

Obama’s aides would put together answers to a large number of possible questions so as soon as a reporter asks a particular question the computer screen could flash talking points to remind Obama how he’s supposed to respond to that question.

You gotta be sh***ng me. And we're supposed to just sit back and nod approvingly? This whole thing is getting Kafkaesque.

Why Is He So Afraid of Speaking Without a Teleprompter?

It isn't Obama that is afraid of speaking off-the-cuff, it is his handlers that are terrified of it. I'm convinced he owes people big time for covering up his birth certificate and other information. These people own him, lock, stock and barrel. I think he probably gets his talking points and instructions from these people via his blackberry that he absolutely will not give up. It probably goes handlers -> Obama -> writers -> teleprompter -> Obama -> his willing minions...

"Obama’s Crutch — Why Is He So Afraid of Speaking Without a Teleprompter?"

It's because he knows he will sound just like Miss South Carolina.

In fact, why don’t we stop calling him the President and start referring to him as Mr. South Carolina.

I expect Sat. Night Live to do a bit with Barky and Michelle at an intimate candlelit dinner complete with teleprompter.

He is a dimwit. But he thinks that he’s brilliant, you are
stupid and that most of the folks that vote are stupid also.
He does not care that some people can see thru him and I’m
afraid that a small majority are as stupid as O thinks.

Considering the fact he chooses who to call on, he can make sure he isn’t asked anything he isn’t prepared for even without plants. All his staff needs to do then is have prepared comments for any likely subject.

That said, I have not heard that he used the teleprompter for the actual questions, just the opening remarks. I do think, however, he uses an in ear canal device to be fed lines. The technology is there and many of his speeches on the campaign trail had some peculiar moments that make a lot more sense of he was listening to, or trying to listen to, someone.

Then: “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!”

Now: “Pay no attention to the men who are typing into my teleprompter!”
