CLEVELAND A man who killed himself a day after he killed his wife and four others told a judge in 2005 that he was ready to be a law-abiding citizen who would not let society down if he was released from prison.
"I swear to you from the bottom of my heart that I 'WILL NOT' let you down. Let my wife or children down. Let my family down. Let society down. Or especially, let myself down," Davon Crawford wrote to Cuyahoga County Judge Michael Russo as part of a motion for release.
...
"There was no standoff," Stacho said. "As they confronted him, he shot himself."
Stacho said officials believe a relative of Crawford lives at the home. He said an unidentified woman was found in another part of the home, but police did not release any information about her connection to Crawford.
Police Chief Michael McGrath said it appears that some sort of domestic argument sparked Thursday's shootings.
Besides Lechea Crawford, killed were her sister Rose Stevens, 25, and Stevens' three children: 4-year-old Destanee Woods and 2-year-old twins Dion and Davion Primm.
A fifth child was wounded and was being treated at MetroHealth Medical Center, which withheld the 7-year-old's name and condition at the family's request.
Two other boys in the house, ages 12 and 13, managed to flee unharmed and one called 911, officials said.
George Julien, 44, who lives across the street from the home, said he was stunned and upset at the shootings.
"I'm almost paralyzed. I'm almost not able to move right now," he said, sitting on his porch.

Mac, I’m heading over to Cam’s market on Miles Ave. in a few minutes. I will get to again gaze upon the ruin that was once the vibrant Randall Mall.
She is a Nancy Grace wannabe. NOt that I like either one. But, I happened upon the Valez creature and after about two minutes I had to turn her off. She's horrendous and pitiful.
YOu are right but as I said I can’t stand the political news so I am hoping for justice on the Casey Anthony situation ... politics is so pitiful .......
But, but, but, but ... “He was a good boy!”, said his momma.
I am tired of seeing our money thrown down a rathole in an attempt to fix these broken monsters who know how to play the system and the libs. The money would be better spent on building more prisons to house the predators for the full lenght of their sentence.
Umm, 53 is young.
Too bad the headline is not...
Kenyan Man Who Killed the American Economy, Freedom, and Way of Life Before Committing Suicide Vowed Change
I only feel sadness for the fiance's sister and her children. The wife 'to be' had to have know how violent this man was and of his past before bring him into the family.
Typical skin head response!!!
I’m a Westsider—but my grandpa used to commute-he worked in one of the factories on Miles—in Bedford Hts., I believe.
I’m pushing 50-left home in the summer of ‘78. Randall Park opened in ‘76, I think—My friends and I went a few times—no one had a car so we had a hell of a time getting there, but it was, especially to a kid, amazing. I think for a while, it was one of the biggest malls in the U.S. Beautiful.
Although I went home to visit several times over the years, I never went back to Randall Park Mall. In 2001, I had a chance to go back on a contract job—working in Richmond Hts., on the East Side. I was there 11 months. Long story short, some of my buddies were talking about Randall Park one day—they filled me in, and I went online to read up on it—My God!
What a damn shame.
I didn’t know you lived out that way—I’ve seen your name on here several times, and I always enjoy your posts, FWIW. Thanks for writing.
Why, thanks Mac!
Randall Mall is empty, except for Sears I believe. And I haven’t seen more than ten cars there at one time in the last couple of years! It’s slated to close soon. The whole area is blighted, with only stores like “Flava” still open. The Asian market where I shop, Cam’s, is located in half of the old Toys Are Us store. I’ll bet his rent is next to nothing!
Randall Mall? That place was bad when I lived in Cleveland during the 90s.
Randall Mall! It’s totally empty know, ‘cept for Sears. Weeds growin’ up through all the cracks in the immense parkin’ lot. It’s a freak just drivin’ around in the lot!
I used to live 10 minutes from a Sears so I wouldn’t go to Randall even for that.
I think it’s been slated for demo, and new low-income housing. The mall was plagued by roving gangs of Afram kids, frightening away shoppers, and stealin’ anything they could get their hands on!
Business as usual.
