Is Twitter a tweet tool for the useful idiots of the left?

Posted on 03/06/2009 11:21:13 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Just heard Rush mention that Twitter is a tool of the left. Obama & Co use it to "tweet" their millions of members with instant messages (propaganda). Don't know if this is true or not, but would be interesting to find out. Same goes for Facebook. Heard it was a leftist tool. And we already know Wiki is. Looks like the left is invading the Net. Prepare to repel boarders to starboard!

Twitter is a tool for any group that wants to use it. There are very active conservative “groups” using twitter. I participate in 2 hash groups. #tcot (Top Conservatives On Twitter) amd #hhrs (Hugh Hewett Rasio Show) get an account and use search to track and participate in the constant conversations. I also use the TweetDeck software so I can track and categorize several conversations at once.

All of the social networking sites are extremely effective “marketing tools”. The 0 campaign/advisors were very net savvy and realized this early on and implemented social net political marketing strategies. I think the term is “viral marketing” or something to that effect.

I joined twitter but don’t know how to use it yet. I joined to talk to Fox News programs, but after signing up, it just doesn’t make sense.

I don't tweet but I do facebook. It is a great way to introduce the truth to people who normally only hear from the left. If you want to be my facebook friend send me a private post.

I think a lot of this has to do with user demographics. For the most part, the people that will be using things like ‘twitter’ are people who have higher computer literacy and use rates, and are therefore younger and more liberal> They are also people who have more time on their hands, which tends toward students, the unemployed, government workers, etc., so you're bound to have higher rates of liberals. Add to that the fact that liberals take the time to air their viewpoints at every instance, from bumperstickers to editorials and everything in between, and you're bound to have an oversampling of lefty viewpoints. This I think is especially true of Obama’s support network.

BTW, can we add "Obama" to our spell-checker? I'm afraid we're stuck with him.

300 can post instant feedback and questions/comments to Hugh during his show.

This would seem to make it as useless as 300 emails or phone messages, yes?

Twittering is a tool used to update your blog/webpage from your blackberry and the left has made very good use of it to communicate with 10’s of millions. The right is to internet/technologically challenged when you compare the two.

I have read though that controlling the net is pretty much impossible, due to so many “private” ownerships.

Yes. I just heard Rush discuss this as well. Maybe we could start a topic area here that consists of how to organize or be involved on a political grassroots way on the web. We could have an overview that someone who is not knowledgeable could scan fairly quickly to get a better idea of what is out there. Then we could have a bit more in depth article that discusses how the left is using this tool successfully to organize and how we on the right may be able to be on both the defensive and offensive. Of course then we can have articles etc addressing these 'tools' as they come up as we do our news threads etc.

My sense is that a lot of conservatives are interested in what these new tools are and would like to be able to use them but are also busy with happy, fulfilling lives :-) (remember the article that said conservatives are happier than libbies?) to spend the time researching.

I used to do a lot of this technological, content, multimedia features and integration visionary stuff from an overview/planning perspective for a living as well as oversaw its implementation and I know one thing if we build it they will come. Right now we just need to get conservatives the information and detailed outlines of use and how to get involved. Maybe down the road this will translate into our troops being web organizing/technically, politically active savvy and go on to update the GOP that we will take over--:-D.

I will be happy to write an article or help in anyway I can. Since I am not staying current on this I wonder if anyone else out there has a good foundation that could write a quick overview just to get us started? If not I would be happy to take a stab at it and additionally write the one with the more in depth research on how exactly it is all being used. Thanks for the post Jim.

I haven’t gotten into Facebook, but a lot of my younger friends and grandchildren have, and it seems to be spreading to older folks as well. They say that people like nieces and nephews are more likely to use Facebook than email to communicate with them.

I confess that so far I have left this alone. I’m just glad that my kids stopped using AIM with all their friends, so I could drop AOL.

If it’s a tool of the left it’s only because they’ve learned to utilize Web 2.0 technology better than the right has.
The way forward is not to blow it off as a tool of the left but to start using it (and similar sites) to our own advantage.

there is already a top Twitter conservative group, of which I am a member on crootnik.. it’s called Top Conservatives on Twitter. Google that and sign up..

Incidentally, I tweeted several times that someone should interface with Free Republic. I received some knock downs that Jim would not be interested. Free R. is a huge group of folks.. should be on Twitter, big time.

Hugh Hewitt has been hugely all over this.. we use hashtag pages to communicate with each other. and see the tweets from all those who are listening to the show: #tcot (top conservatives on twitter) and #hhrs (hugh hewitt radio show) and #teaparty... and many others.

for those of you who wish to find out more, google hashtag pages... or google #tcot or #hhrs ...etc..

it’s a huge community.

You’re not missing much.. yet.

I am in the novice mode.. but I can see how it can be used to get messages out or let folks trash the truth quick..

An army of mindless automatons could do a lot of damage with a tool like this... Obama IS President. I rest my case. ;-)
